Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe breakfast was on the bland side. The bathroom was a bit too small, it was the first bathtub in Japan that we couldn't fit comfortably.
Walking distance from many touristic spots, but in a calm and peaceful area. One block from the metro. A room that has everything you could need. Great front desk staff: they were able to speak multiple languages, were very accommodating to make us as comfortable as possible, the best hotel staff we met in our Japan's trip.

Super comfortable stay in the heart of Kyoto just outside the Gion district. Couldn’t have asked for better service or a nicer place to stay as was very comfortable for a family of three. As expected hotel rooms are smaller, but not cramped and the service and quality of the facilities was outstanding. I can’t say enough about the front desk, service, and all the associated amenities at the hotel that also come with your stay. A special shout out to the front desk, staff for helping out with money troubles with my bank and all the extra work that they put in around transferring baggage, as well as ensuring our stay was the best one that we could possibly have.

United StatesIt was an excellent stay, we liked everything!! They provide clean towels every day if towels left in door bag, and they clean rooms every 3 days.
Close to the bullet train and everything downtown Kyoto, Japan. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The accommodations were clean. There is even a kitchen, and handy washing machine which was great since July had 99° weather and our clothes would get sweaty during excursions. They also offered a delicious fresh hot breakfast daily, and beverage bar from 3 PM until 10 PM after excursions. Fabulous!!

United StatesWe had to sit around for a while to get checked in bc no one was at the front desk. Our room had a strange smell. They tried to make it better but we tolerated it.
The property was in a great location - it was close to a station and great restaurants. I loved that we had a washer and a drying mechanism to do our laundry. One of the staff members went above and beyond. He spent over an hour assisting me with buying Shinkansen tickets.

United StatesAs others had noted, the bedroom was kind of small. I don't think a large suitcase would have fit in the closet, and there wasn't much space on either side of the bed; in fact, you had to step over the corner of the bed to stand next to it.
The room was cute and worked well for our family of four. We tucked away the small accessory floor table and chairs in order to spread out the sleeping pads and blankets for the kids but there was still a dining table for use. We took a train from Osaka to Kyoto and didn't have to change trains within Kyoto to get to the hotel. Just a 5 or so minute walk from the station exit. The same station took us easily to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. 10 minute walk to Sanjūsangendō Temple. In theory, a 25-30 minute walk to Nishiki Market, Pontocho Park, Yasaka Shrine, Ninenkaza, or Kiyomizu-dera but because it was above 95F degrees all week, we used taxis for about 1200-1500 yen on average which the front desk helped call for us. The immediate area was very quiet, maybe a 5 minute walk before you hit any real markets or restaurants. The kids enjoyed the free popsicles and beverages from 3-10PM. We didn't do the breakfast add-on so cannot comment on that. The staff there were very friendly and helpful at all times. Free wi-fi worked great, although there was no password on it, so not very secure?

MalaysiaDo be careful of the window blinds haha! It was completely on our side for not reading the instructions properly. But there were times that we’d accidentally tug on the string and the entire thing would lift up. Nonetheless, nothing really that we ‘didn’t like’, just an overall pleasant experience.
We travelled as three people, me and my two girls, so we were looking into apartment hotels for a more comfortable stay in Kyoto. At first, we expected to get the room with the view of the Kamogawa river. But as we continued to stay in our given room, the view of the mountains was much more welcoming to us. But the room and amenities were all complete and very clean. The kitchen area was the most enjoyable for us as it was very spacious. There was even a welcome note and some confectionery prepared for us, which was super sweet of them to prepare. The surrounding area is already very friendly to have a walk around, as it’s close to the Kamogawa river. Nearby convenience stores are also about a 5-minute walk to get to. And we have to mention about our receptionist, Jeff, who made our stay all the more worthwhile. Upon checking in, he was very patient to deal with us late at night and ensured that we understood everything about the room. When we were checking out, as we waited for our uber, he was being such a great sport entertaining our conversations as we told him about our travels. He went beyond to the extent that when our uber arrived, he helped to translate some details we wanted to relay to the driver and even stood outside the hotel, waving us off, until we couldn’t see him anymore. He was one of the reasons that made our stay in Kyoto feel very welcoming. Thank you Hiyori stay, Jeff and staff for making our stay comfortable. And we can’t wait for a time in the future for us to return back to the hotel in the next Japan trip.

United StatesLocation. 5 minute walk to local train station or bus station. 20 minute walk to Nishiki Market or Kyoto Station. Hotel and rooms are clean and well maintained. The rooms were more spacious than the places we've stayed in Osaka and Tokyo. Staff were so very helpful. Knowing that our Japanese was limited to pleasantries, they consistently offered to help us with most everything including making dinner reservations for our large party of 12. I highly recommend staying here.

RomaniaThe staff was very helpful and friendly and spoke perfect English. The room was very clean, fully equipped with everything necessary, including a washing machine and dryer, which was our main reason to book a room here. Our second reason was the location. Close to Gion district and many other temples and shrines. It's located in a quiet residential neighborhood, which we loved, it has supermarkets and various restaurants nearby. The train station is also very close. Both Kyoto main train station and a local one which has a direct train to Fushimi Inari. We really enjoyed our stay and next time we'll stay here as well.
