Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsNo issues basically. For Europeans bit strange is that there are no stairs that can be used, only lifts. They claim that in case of emergency, stairs will be opened, let's hope that is true.
Location close to railway station and castle as well. Clean, well functioning hotel. Nice breakfast buffet.

United KingdomOk, earthquakes. Early evening and a 5.2 quake shook our pretty small room on the 9th floor violently. As our phones were going off with alerts to evacuate, we made our way down the stairs and a member of staff told us to take the lift! Obviously we continued to the fire escape on the ground floor and along with the other guests stood outside in a place of safety on the street. Had no real direction from staff on what to do, so made our way back inside, so could have been advised better on what was going on. Once back inside, the self-contained bathroom pod was a tad wet, as the quake had emptied the bath water.
Location was suitable for our needs and for a smallish hotel, all was pretty good. Not far to walk to from the train station and they did have appropriate booking in, amenities and it was modern and clean. Breakfast was ok, but not as good as expected selection wise and quite small for all the guests. They did have a free ice cream or noodles bar at 6pm which was nice.

SingaporeOne suggestion for improvement: it would have been excellent if bottled water was provided in the rooms, or at least if there were a water dispenser available in the lobby for guests.
We truly enjoyed our stay at Iroha Grand Hotel. The location is excellent—just a short walk from Matsumoto train station, surrounded by shops, eateries (including McDonald's!), and several 7-11s. There's even a Starbucks nearby for coffee lovers in the train station. The hotel room, though compact, was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. We appreciated the smart use of space, such as the area under the bed that fits a large suitcase. One of the highlights was the nightly complimentary dessert or ramen, a lovely touch offered on a first-come, first-served basis. What especially warmed our hearts was the staff’s attentiveness—when they noticed a lighting issue during housekeeping, they took the initiative to fix it without us needing to ask. That level of care made us feel well looked after. Overall, we highly recommend this hotel for its convenience, cleanliness, and thoughtful service.

United StatesStayed here for 2 nights and it was okay. It's not a traditional Japanese-style hotel but the location is perfect (6-min walk from both train station and bus terminal!) Room size was about what you'd expect for Japan. Amenities like toothbrushes, bath salts, and skin milk are available in the lobby so you just grab what you need. They offer free ice cream or ramen from 8–10pm. There's also a laundromat which is super convenient. And did I mention that the best part was the location? Super convenient.

Access to the hotel from both railway and bus stations on foot was easy. It was also within easy walking distance of the castle. Room was excellent and spacious. We had no problem parking the wheelchair in the room and opening suitcases. As the room was ready we were allowed to check in early which was a welcome bonus. Despite it being quite full it was quiet. We had an early departure the next day so were advised by reception to breakfast early, which we did. The breakfast selection was more than adequate.

United KingdomPower switch to the room on entry with the key card.
Decent sized room (for Japan), lots of amenities, fridge (with ice box), AC with all modes available, decent bathroom, and plenty of storage space including under the bed. Good central location but out of the way of the main busy streets. Light switches and power socket (USB-A and mains) by the bed which is very handy for today's standards. Provided a free small ramen bowl or small ice cream with cruffle (waffle shaped croissant), probably only a limited offer at my time of stay. Washing machines and drier, with a couple of vending machines (drinks and snacks), microwave on certain floors.
