Our experience at this hotel was truly wonderful. From the very beginning, the staff made us feel at home with their kindness and attention. They helped us with taxi and restaurant reservations, and even offered us the lovely experience of wearing beautiful kimonos, which made our stay even more special. The entire team was always attentive and professional, taking care of every detail with a smile. Without a doubt, it is a place we would be delighted to return to.

Amazing accommodation and super friedly staff. They helped us introducing japanese culture, understand purpose of various items in Japan and spent a lot of time with us explaining. It was a very japanese stay. They even prepared an excellent vegetarian breakfast, having both japanese and western style versions. Highly recommended for families.

Everything at the place was great- It is a little further out of town but that is not a problem as the staff always calls taxis for you And there is a wonderful restaurant of walking distance.

This staff was extremely friendly and really made his feel at home. Sayuri greeted Us and made sure we made the most out of our visit. I would highly recommend this place.

We wanna thank you for the lovely experience of your ryokan. The energy of Mr. Receptionist and "Aoi miko"-san made the whole stay very comfortable and simply amazing. The only small issue is not very exciting view from the room - a road and some industrial buildings with mountains barely peaking behind.

We're very happy that we selected Hidaya as our first ever ryokan experience. The staff was lovely, instantly made us feel at home and helped us to get the most of our short visit to Takayama (recommendations, taxi and restaurants booking, yukata rental and much, much more). The Japanese style breakfast was delicious and varied from day to day. The place is very charming and well maintained. The small hot bath was a very nice addition that we've used multiple times. It's located quite far from any attractions so a car/taxi is your best bet but it can be reached on foot within 10min from a nearby bus stop and around 30min from the historic center. Highly recommended! Takayama was definitely a highlight of our trip and Hidaya was big part of it. Thank you for your hospitality!

The shower in the room would make the stay even more comfortable than it was.

Great staff, very nice and helpful. It was the first hotel that helped us with the luggage. They gave our son so many sweets and the sweets were free for everybody to try Japanese sweets. The onsen was very clean and beautiful. They made our stay truly unforgettable in Japan even for one night.

Highly recommend this place, best memory for our entire Japan trip !! The hospitality was beyond our imagination. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly, although there was a language barrier. All of our requests/questions were quickly resolved. The welcoming snacks/tea/yukata wearing experience elevated the entire experience. The room size is big, and we had both a tatami and a super king-size bed in our room. Quiet room in a 100+ year old ryokan, but our room is not facing the main road. The breakfast spread was amazing, and it did not repeat itself on our multi-day stay. We knew about the shared shower facility before booking, so it was not an issue for us. A little far from the town centre, but we do not mind this, only <10 mins by taxi.

Staff was super nice and friendly, willing to help and support requests, they speaking English as well, facilities were nice and clean, onsen nice as well. Breakfast experience was also quite nice, they serve it in a very enjoyable set up.

the ryokan is a bit removed from where a visitor will want to be, having a car was an advantage although other guests did not seem to have a problem getting a taxi. We also walked to restaurants so not a problem for us, but others might find this inconvenient. Otherwise Iroriyado Hidaya was a great place to stay and we would do it again.

Everything about Iroriyado Hidaya was charming. The ryokan/onsen is very traditional in look and feel - the rooms are very generously sized and the ambiance is amazing. We are a family of 4 adults, so booked 2 rooms, which worked very well. The staff are the most friendly and hospitable people who made us feel very welcome, especially Haruka and Sayuri (thank you so much again!). The on-site onsen was such a bonus, which we used morning and evening. There are no showers in the rooms, but this is not a problem at all. The futon beds were very comfortable. The Japanese breakfast each morning was outstanding - so well presented, with lots of variety and plenty to eat. It was the perfect way to start the day and one of the highlights. There are good restaurants within a 10 to 20 minute walk. It was also very quiet at night, which made for good sleeping. We rented a car so the free parking was appreciated and made getting around Takayama region so much easier.

This is nothing the property could do anything about, but the location wasn’t near any public transportation. And there could be outside noises coming through, though they offered ear plugs for free in the reception area.

The staff were the most wonderful hosts I’ve had. They would ask where I would go and other trip details and you can feel their excitement. They were exceptionally engaging. The building and rooms was gorgeous and kept well.

The only minor downside would be road noise, but what do you expect in a convenient location with traditional Japanese architecture? The staff kindly offered earplugs should we need them but we never did.

A truly wonderful experience, not just a place to stay. 10/10, just book it. The staff could not be nicer or more helpful, and the array of cultural experiences they provide in addition to comfortable, clean, convenient rooms is truly above and beyond. They welcomed us so warmly, with treats for my children, and gave us great advice on what to do locally. The onsen experience was wonderful, and we enjoyed dressing in yukata as a family. My 6 year old was thrilled to learn origami as well. Truly a highlight of our Japan trip. Don’t hesitate, if it’s available for your dates, this is the place to go.

Ryokan is pretty but unfortunately situated on the front of a road. It’s not intrusive and doesn’t distract from the ambience of the property but the traffic noise will disturb your sleep. As will not curtains… and an early sunrise!
