We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

JapanWonderful getaway and location for some peace and quiet. Small, intimate ryokan but with lots of space and very inviting and comfortable. Beds and pillows are a little stiff compared to western standard. However, spacious room and love the semi-outdoor bath and patio area to enjoy and relax. Close proximity to coast/beach with lots of walking and hiking. Food at the property is also excellent, worth investing in. Would love to stay again.

FranceOur stay was far too short, and it was hard to say goodbye to such wonderful people and this magical place.
From the moment we booked, we felt genuine care — warm and heartfelt, like coming home. We were met at the station and taken to a dreamlike place. Our room, in Japanese minimalist style, had a private onsen with stunning views of the ocean and velvet-green mountains — the perfect spot for sunrise. Delicious traditional breakfasts were served with the same breathtaking view. Care is felt in every detail. Surrounded by magical nature, it feels like stepping into a Hayao Miyazaki film — you might even imagine Totoro waving from the mountains. A truly magical place. I will treasure these memories forever. Thank you, Isana Resort.

United StatesFantastic Service, amazing meals. The staff was so friendly and accommodating, and the service was top notch. We did the full dinner and breakfast, and both were amazing- Michelin level quality and presentation. Great wine list, and the coffee was one of the best cups I've had in a long time. We loved the private onsen in the room, as well as the bookable pubic one.

United StatesThis is a little gem with just a few rooms (maybe 10?) tucked away in Ito. We chose the half-board and the dinner was FABULOUS! So much more than we expected and probably the best Western-style dinner weʻve had at any hotel/resort in Japan. The staff was extremely friendly, our room was very spacious and itʻs located right next to the ocean (although not a beach, so no swimming).

BelgiumThe staff is very hospitable and attentive to the needs of their guests. The food is amazing, it is worth a Michelin star. The private onsen is very good. The surroundings are very beautiful with possibilities for sightseeing and activities such as hiking, diving, etc. It is easily reachable even by train and the shuttle they offer is very convenient too. We will definitely go to Isana resort again.

AustraliaThe tap sensor and small water flow, which makes washing a bit difficult. But understand it is for the good intention (saving water).
Everything. The breakfast was amazing. The quality and presentation exceeded my expectations. I particularly enjoyed the sashimi (changes everyday) and the coffee (made by the chef). Quite impressed with the selection of coffee beans. Also the service was top notch. It was the end of our two-week trip in Japan and the service was the best among 8 hotels we stayed. The attentiveness and consideration of the staff deserve a big applause.

AustraliaBeautiful property with stunning views. The rooms are very spacious, they are on the older side but have been kept extremely well so they don’t feel dated or that they need upgrading. The private bath in the room balcony was so peaceful. We also loved the private moonlight bath that you can make bookings for. This was our first hot springs experience in Japan and we loved it. The staff were also so friendly.

United KingdomWhilst you can easily hike to the coast, it's difficult to go further without a car as it's around 25 minutes walk to the nearest train stations. The nearest convenience stores are a similar distance, although with the hotel food so good you can probably do without! A vending machine with beers and cup noodles is available in the hotel.
Easily the best dining experience we had in 3 weeks travelling around Japan, and amazingly good value (9000 yen pp for dinner). The staff are super friendly and rooms are few, giving the place a warm family-ran atmosphere. Location wise, you're a few minutes walk from the spectacular Jogasaki coast and suspension bridge. Our room was huge by Japan standards, and the private mini-onsen on the balcony a memorable addition. Highly recommended.

United KingdomWifi isn't great, so I mostly relied on my own data.
This was our 2nd visit and we had another fantastic stay. The location is perfect for a relaxing weekend, really scenic and beautiful sea views. The open-air bath is the main appeal for us, followed closely by the food (dinner is a must if you stay here, definitely book as it's a highlight). The staff (shoutout to Uehara-san) are also super warm and helpful. We’ll definitely be returning again.

United KingdomThis is a small boutique hotel in a lovely coastal location. The food here is exceptional. The chef is very talented combining Japanese cuisine with a French influence. The dinner is memorable. Staff here are welcoming and attentive. The onsen facilities are great for couples who wish to enjoy the facilities together.

JapanThe place was really clean & comfortable with friendly staff, and the private bath was very nice. Had a very good breakfast. The only thing we didn’t like is that the use of the bigger common bath was divided into 40 minutes time slot, and all slots were filled when we came back from dinner.

South KoreaEverything was excellent as expected. The highlight was the private bath on the balcony, where we could enjoy the hot spring while listening to the ocean breeze and waves. Highly recommended for honeymooners. At night, you can even observe individual stars. The staff were very friendly as well. However, the Western-style course dinner had slightly heavy sauces. Also, compared to typical fine dining, the table decoration was somewhat minimal. I think it would have been better if they had focused on Japanese cuisine instead. Breakfast was Japanese-style and generally good, though I wished it had captured more of the characteristic Japanese simplicity, freshness, and elegance.

CanadaISANA is somewhat isolated, in terms of geography. Staff are more than willing to drive you to the train station nearby but there isn't a whole lot in terms of amenities or groceries within a walkable distance. The beds are not the most comfortable, but this is a minor complaint when compared to how amazing ISANA was in every other way.
ISANA is beautifully located with ocean views directly from your private balcony onsen (as well as the larger onsen that you can book for free). All meals were truly exceptional, I cannot recommend the food enough.

United StatesThere was nothing we didn't love
This resort was absolutely wonderful. Ryokan type experience but in a western style environment with hardwood floors in the rooms. The staff are so warm and kind and go above and beyond to provide amazing service. Huge room with outdoor open air bath overlooking the ocean, bed was super firm with great pillows, and there was a huge smart TV which was a welcome break from 5 Japanese TV channels at other hotels. The food served at dinner and breakfast was a real highlight...each dish was amazing made with local ingredients, presented like works of art. Coming here was the most memorable part of our entire Japan trip.
