Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

HungaryIt was my 2nd time here and I was again very happy with this accomodation. The rooms are traditional Japanese style and equipped with air-conditioning, safety locker and extra mattresses if you find yours too thin. The communal kitchen is well equipped as well and can become a great spot for conversation and international exchange even. There is a communal bathroom and one separate communal toilet. The accomodation is overall very clean. There are pamphlets of sights to see and things to do around Izumo and other nearby towns so don't be afraid to gain some inspiration from there. The proprietor is always full of smiles and very kind. Check in and check out is very smooth. He is also happy to tell you about things to do in town. If you don't mind sharing a room and a bathroom with others I really recommend staying at Guesthouse itoan!

United StatesIt was very difficult to get in touch with the staff before my arrival. I tried to contact them through Booking.com and got no response. I arrived early and the staff wasn't present, but the email address on the sign they posted appeared to be a dud, as no one responded. They did have phone numbers, but I wasn't able to call a Japanese phone number at the time.
The location was amazing being just around 5 - 10 minutes from the train station. It was also around a lot of restaurants and other food sources. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well! I really enjoyed my time there.

United StatesThe upstairs toilet was Japanese squatting style, so it was a little uncomfortable. The sinks only had cold water so you needed to brace yourself in the winter. The common spaces were a bit cold, so it was not an inviting area to linger in.
The location was great. The staff recommended many local restaurants and facilities that were great during my stay. The tatami room and futon were very comfortable, and the other guests were respectful at night so I woke well rested.

SpainIs very very quiet. The host looks really kind but there is a barrier lnguage. I guess is cause I can’t speak japanese. It looks like in high season they do nice gatherings. The building for sleeping is few meters away from the communal space, is great but since I was the only one there it felt a bit too silent. The price is cheap, is a guesthouse, not a hostel, but the bathroom can improve the cleaning. The rest was very good.
Is a ryokan type, very traditional and cute. Really like the style. It was great location for visiting izumo taishe since is 5 min from the station

New ZealandHouse looks a bit rundown from the outside, but is quite nice inside. Upstairs toilet did unfortunately smell like urine the whole time, but everything else seemed clean.
This place was pretty quiet when I stayed, so I had a whole room to myself. It had everything it needed, plus lots of interesting info in the kitchen and hallway.

AustraliaFairly simple & basic for kitchen & bathroom; still fair for the price. The reception area on main image is not the place of accomodation that i stayed in; it was next door. Not fully clear on where the accommodation was until i got there. Thats Ok but not ideal.

ChileJust my bad luck but some of the other guests where noisy really late at night, around 2am. It made it difficult to rest.
Kitchen is nice with complimentary coffee and tea. Everything else was to my satisfaction. Futon beds over tatami are harder than a mattress but of course it's what was advertised so I'm ok with it.

JapanThere was only one toilet for all the ground-floor rooms. Privacy in the rooms is scarce.
The location made the station very easy to access. The building is in the old Ryokan style on the inside, which makes it an enjoyable cultural experience. Tatami-mat rooms and futons for beds. Kitchen is spacious and could easily facilitate cooking a full dinner.

United StatesThe traditional Japanese interior is amazing. It may not be as convenient as the modern hotel, but offers the taste of Japanese tradition and history. It has a small kitchen, good enough to prepare meals for yourself. My room is not located at the spot as shown in Google map, but in the nearby building. The owner was waiting for me at the supposed spot (actually, it seems like an interesting small coffee shop, holding discussions for local young people), then brought me to my room.

RomaniaNo privacy, you share the room with someone else and there are no curtains, only a very small separator. Also even though we were 2 guests only we stayed in the same room. Shower is very annoying, even on low pressure it feels like it’s piercing your skin because the shower head holes are very thin. And it’s impossible to adjust, it goes from hot to cold every 30 seconds. Very bad. Shower time from 4PM to 9AM Many insects: spiders, cockroaches, mosquitoes. No electric Japanese toilet, so no bidet. And there’s only 1 toilet in the whole house. The price is too high. I stayed in waaay nicer places with privacy for literally half the price. The place shown first in the pictures is not where the actual sleeping space is, it’s in a different building down the street. That’s kinda misleading. The first picture you see is the one of a cafe or something. Host speaks only Japanese.
