Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis is an exceptional Ryokan in a great location. The private Onsen on the balcony is a little small, but it's perfectly designed. The staff are amazing, the views are great, and we fell in love with this spot and will definitely return.

United StatesThere was not much to dislike. The only thing I would say is that if you have kids or if anyone does not like fish, there are not a lot of options for breakfast. The traditional Japanese breakfast they offer is very different from western breakfasts and very fished based. However, they do offer a buffet with some small portions of fruit, rice and a curry that was very good, on top of the sit down breakfast. This was not a big negative, but noting that we would have liked to have some cocktail or beer option earlier. They were only serving in the evening for specific hours on their beautiful rooftop deck. They do offer a welcome tea to enjoy up there upon arrival, which was nice though.
The property was beautiful and had a very clean minimalistic style. It was tucked away, up on a hill, so it was very peaceful as well. We arrived early because we only had 1 night and 1.5 days in Atami and we wanted to make the most of it. They were taking our info for our stay, so they could put our bags away before our official check in, when my dad noticed that he had lost his cell phone. They helped us call the taxi service to locate the driver and maybe 15 min later, they told us the driver just called and said he found his phone. Soon after, the taxi driver arrived back at the hotel to return the phone. The rooms were very comfortable and we had an ocean view from the balcony. The shower was incredible and we loved our private onsen on the balcony. We chose to have dinner at the hotel and the whole family loved it. Everything was beautifully presented. Even our kids meals were amazing and just as delicious as ours were.

BelgiumThe dinner is not as good as expected, also the dining service doesn't meet the expectation, it was suppose to be served course by course, but it happened that we were still having the current dish and another dish is already served...
The room is super nice and comfortable! The in-room hot spring is amazing!!! Staffs are also very nice!!! Highly recommend the in-room massage service as well!!

CanadaIncredibly beautiful property. The amount of thought and care that went into the overall design is much appreciated. Very good service - everyone made sure we had an exceptional experience. The breakfast was fantastic for each day we were there. The rooftop bar was fun and the dinner was a highlight of our trip. I will be recommending Soki Atami to others and I look forward to return again some day!

AustraliaCouldn’t fault this place. It’s a little way from the station but we had a car and they had a carpark spot for us so not an issue.
The whole place has such a zen feel to it. It’s new, modern, clean, spacious. The outdoor bath was beautiful. Our welcome tea was in a beautiful area with a nice view. It was very relaxing

AustraliaNothing. Perhaps a little expensive but I really enjoyed my stay.
I travelled especially to Atami to stay at Soki Atami. This was a high-end hotel that was done very well. It was obvious that the hotel had been designed around modern architecture with a minimalist style. The staff were on hand when required, however they worked to allow guests their space. The rooms and facilities were amazing here. Absolutely delightful. The bar and lounge had an amazing view and a beautiful place to enjoy the sights of Atami Bay area. I did not have dinner here (went to a great little western style restaurant run by a beautiful Japanese couple). I did have breakfast and it was amazing. This was a real experience and everything on offer was perfect and delicious. I enjoyed my stay here a lot. Not cheap, however it was a real treat.

JapanLocation is not near from the Atami station
I was very grateful that I could see how crowded the large bathrooms were on the first information screen on the TV in the room. A security card is required to enter the women's bath, which made me feel safe. The breakfast room had a nice view and it was nice to relax while eating.

CanadaI do wish the garbage bins were bigger, but I think that’s a common thing in most Japanese hotels.
It’s quiet and minimal in the best way, with staff always available when needed. The facility’s overall design is thoughtfully done as well.

CanadaA larger garbage bin would have been helpful—especially since the room we stayed in was quite spacious, and it was a bit challenging to manage with kids.
The staff’s attentiveness and the thoughtful facility design made the stay truly enjoyable.

HungaryHaving a garden, and natural thermal water, the size and the position of the bath houses are just not matching the overall quality of the accomodation. An open air bath in the garden, or with a view, or at least overlooking some green inner garden would be the minimum expected on this level. Instead they are just tiny, stone clad cubicles with sky views. The rooms with balcony bathtubs make up for the loss.
Excellent, minimal, sleek design for those architecture-hungry folks. Matching quality catering, well designed and executed food.

United KingdomDuring our stay we opted for a dinner course one evening, for the amount paid we personally didn't think it was value for money. There were interesting dishes and ingredients but having enjoyed set course meals at other venues, we felt this was too costly in comparison. We also initially struggled in obtaining some milk for our toddler. In the mornings at breakfast time it was not a problem, however on our first night in the evening milk was not available. Fortunately there is a local seven eleven about 5 minute walk away so bought some from there.
The hotel has a very relaxed and calm vibe which we welcomed. It is set in a quiet neighbourhood so the views are ok but more residential, however we could see the water far ahead of us and the hills to the side of us each morning and it was nice seeing the mist and clouds up high, along with the lush surroundings. We found a lovely dessert place a 3 minute walk from the hotel called cloud la mer, but there are not many places to eat nearby for dinner so its best to eat down in the main areas before coming back up to the hotel. There is a seven eleven and also a small supermarket further down the hill, both about a 5-8 minute walk. We loved the layout of our room which was spacious and also functional with a young toddler. The toiletries were all of a good quality and we enjoyed wearing our pyjama's for breakfast. We also had an onsen on our balcony which was lovely to use. The breakfast is traditional Japanese so you are given a tray filled with fish, pickles, rice and miso soup and other small dishes to try and this was enjoyable for our 3 night stay however any longer and it may have been too much. There was also a pick your own section as well for breakfast so you could grab extra's such as fruits and yogurts.

United StatesThis is of no fault of the hotel, but just something to note. It is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel to the shore (restaurants/shopping), but it’s quite steep. We ended up walking it twice, so the onsen was much appreciated for our sore muscles.
The property is beautiful, clean and very peaceful. The interior is a mix of classic Japanese with a modern minimalist feel/twist. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating (some speak limited English, and really appreciated any attempt at Japanese) The food in general was exceptional and we particularly enjoyed the breakfasts that were included with our booking. We paid for the special dinner, which was somewhat costly, but worth it in our opinions. They went above and beyond to accommodate my food allergies and even remembered to adjust my breakfast the next morning. The rooms were beautiful (minimalist theme) and well appointed with tea, sweets, dressing robes, toiletries, and water. The onsen was an indoor facility, and was clean and relaxing. If you have a tattoo, bring a patch to cover it as the one they sell is extremely painful to remove. :/. I ended up using the onsen in our room more often than the public onsen. The lounge on the top floor has a beautiful aesthetic and view towards the ocean. We highly recommend partaking in the welcome tea/sweets.
