Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyHighly recommended for bigger travelling groups, as it is a little bit too expensive for two people.
What a nice traditional home and authentic experience. The sauna and onsen are a treat. Its a short walk uphill. A small river passes by. The owner is very considerate and helpful.

JapanThe futons were thinner than I expected. For the winters, I’d like a thicker and a full futon set, and may be a humidifier as well because the heaters make the air very dry. But it was really a non issue for one night.
I absolutely loved the house. It was great value for money, my friend and I stayed the night and had the place to ourselves where we could cook, watch movies, play games. It had heaters, a sitting kotatsu table, an and hot water bottles to keep warm. The aesthetics also offered a warm and comfortable feel. Overlooking the mountains and Yoshino river, the property was beautiful and relaxing. Hosoi San was very helpful, caring, and sent us several options to help us find places that meet our dietary needs.

SingaporeGetting there from the station is up a hill and tricky for very heavy luggage. Should think about getting hot water to the bathroom where the sauna is.
The place is pretty. Tastefully furnished with everything necessary to stay, cook & wash. It is very near a supermarket. The train station is about 8min walk away. Train ride to Yoshino is about 4min (2 stops). Works for me and my family to do stay 2 nights and have a full day trip to Mt Yoshino. The bedroom with 2 beds is actually a separate house which gives you nice privacy.

United StatesThis is not about the property itself, but the address provided on Bookings is not quite accurate and it took us a bit longer to find the actual location of the property. It is located on a small hill with quite steep slopes and quite a few staircases, so people traveling with a large amount of luggage may find it a little challenging to get all your belongs uphill.
The property is very beautiful and the check-in and check-out process had been very smooth. We chose this place specifically because it provides proper beds (two twin beds in the annex). Most Japanese hotels including the fancy ones only provide floor sleeping arrangement and the availability of beds really helped our parents who find sleeping on the floor uncomfortable. The beds turned out to be wonderful for them and the room is very quiet at night so everyone was able to get quality sleep.

GermanyWe stayed there end of December and the house was quite cold (just like any other traditional Japanese house in winter). We had the aircon as heater and a small electric heater running in the bedroom and the living room, but during the night it still was a bit chilly. But futons were quite warm and there were additional warm blankets available, so all good. Going to the toilet was a bit cold though 🤣. You also have to walk up a lot of stairs to the house, might be difficult with a lot of luggage.
Stunning small and very traditional Japanese house in Yoshino. Quite far up a hill so you have a nice view over the river and the city. Looks very well-kept and is clean. Loved the tatami bedroom and the futons. Absolutely amazing and very authentic Japanese experience, I would definitely recommend staying there and would love to go there again!!! I am repeating myself 😃 but it truly was stunning. The owner was super nice and answered quite fast to messages.

CanadaThe steps and the incline pathway to the residence. I slipped and injured myself coming down. I was holding the ramp, but is it very low, and was useless in preventing my fall. Actually, there is safer way to get to the house, but the instructions were not clear as to where to park, and where to walk up.
The feeling of staying in a old genuine Japanese house. They put a blanket on the table which reaches the floor, and there is a heater under the table. Great way to keep warm while sitting at the table. in the main house, the bedroom is on the first floor and the bathroom on the main floor, which means navigating steep stairs if you need to get up in the middle of the night.

AustraliaWonderful view across the valley. There were lots of great spaces to relax and hang out. The cabins are beautifully done in a traditional style. The kitchen was fully kitted out with everything you need to grill, bbq, hotpot or whatever you like to cook. Yoshino was a great base to explore local shrines, hiking paths, sake breweries and villages. Our host was exceptional in proving recommendations about the local area and even helped us make a booking for Uda’s amazing soba restaurant. Thank you for helping us make the most of our stay!
