Bedding woulod benefit from having a summer duvet available - the covering was rather too hot, but without covering, it was too cold. Otherwise, this was a great retreat for us

The location is the best for me! Not too far from Kakunodate Station, near laundry coin, near supermarket and around 10 minutes walk to samurai houses. It's clean and comfy. When I was there, no one beside me is using the bunk bed because Sakura season has passed so the tourist rush was no more. Still, it's a beautiful place and I'd like to come again! The host were responsive, helpful and nice. Thank you!

I actually was the only guest at the hostel when I went. I guess Kakunodate is not a popular city for foreigners, but I personally liked that. The staff was also super nice and they speak English.

The women's area is just separated by the man's area by a curtain hehe it was ok for me, but if you want specifically a woman's area may be odd. Other guests were a bit noisy before 5 am :( but apart from that everything was good

It was cozy, clean, good location (not so far way walking from the station) and they were really really kind :)

Be mindful of the big stairs leading up to the rooms if you have lots of luggage. I note that they kindly carried my suitcase up the stairs! I didn't on this occasion but I believe it's fair enough - note that if you take a bath it is an additional 500yen.

Best pillow among the hostels I've stay at so far! But more importantly the owners are very kind and generous and their lovely daughter likes to be social :) Shame not to spend more time in the area. Great to have a bar to hang your clothes/coat up!

Very clean and comfy place! The host was so friendly! She helped us find the best way to avoid traffic jams on our way to the festival. I definitely recommend this place!

The guesthouse is a great place to stay in Kakunodate. The owner is very friendly, the dorm is spatious and clean. The location is in walking distance from the JR Kakunodate station. I would definitely stay again.

The only drawback could be having to go out to get to the kitchen, but I didn't find it to be a problem.

It's a small hostel - bedroom is in a separate building, where also a bathroom is. Room is spacious and there are 8 beds there. Just next to it, there's a kitchen and small common room. One can put valuables in a locker and staff provides a padlock. There's a big supermarket nearby, great for buying some food.

I stayed in winter time. It was the perfect base for Akitas winter festivals. The room was warm and clean and the beds comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to help me get a taxi booking.

It is a little bit farther away from the tourist spots than I would have liked, but if you don't mind walking a little bit that shouldn't be a problem!

This place had everything I needed for a comfortable stay, and it was a great price! Everything was very updated and clean, and the owner was very nice.

This place exceeded my expectations in every way. Well located a few minutes away from the station, with a supermarket 1 minute away and easy access to nature. Everything was convenient, clean and pretty, but above everything else was the owners kindness. Constantly present and helpful, they were a delight and an absolute pleasure to chat with. I intend to come visit Akita again, I don't know when, but I'll make sure to come back to this hostel.
