Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainOur stay at Longing House was a wonderful mix of comfort and charm. Staying in the new Annex felt like sleeping in a cozy log cabin, with warm wooden interiors, traditional tatami floors, and the most heavenly futon beds—we slept so well! One of the highlights was the private open-air bath. While not an onsen, it was still a lovely experience, offering a peaceful soak under the sky. Each room gets to book a time slot per day, with late-night and early-morning slots available on a first-come, first-served basis—so plan accordingly! Instead of dining at the hotel, we preferred to explore Karuizawa’s vibrant food scene. We loved wandering through the neighborhood, discovering charming bakeries and local eateries. The mix of modern design and traditional Japanese architecture made exploring the town even more enjoyable. Overall, Longing House provided a cozy, relaxing stay, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Would highly recommend it for those looking for a peaceful retreat with easy access to great food and beautiful surroundings!

Hong KongWe went to stay your hotel with my family coming from the States and they booked the oldest room whereas I booked a newer one. For my room, everything is ok but my relative one is too old and the lock in room 208 was broken. Dinner and breakfast is nice and tasty.

The room is new and clean. There’s a big window that we could watch snow fall outside. But the bed was nice and comfortable. Kept us warm during winter.

United StatesA charming historic inn with a wonderful restaurant with fresh local food, plainly marked for vegans and vegetarians. They upgraded us for free to a lovely room with a sauna, and large sunken tub. It was a beautiful space with clean and easily reserved private onsen.

ChinaService was friendly and polite, but felt it could be abit warmer. Room decor felt a tad dated but overall it didn't affect our experience of the stay.
The breakfast, private hot baths, garden and the free drinks at the lounge. I didn't expect to like this place so much but it's extremely charming. It's got a gothic feel to it. We booked the Superior and Standard twin room and the difference in size is massive. Suggest to go with Superior if u can. There's a computer to make reservations for your private baths, be sure to book early as slots filled up fast in the afternoon. The breakfast food has a wide variety, was fresh, healthy and absolutely delicious! There are also bikes for rent available, lots of parking space and a huge garden front and back (behind restaurant) for you to roam about. The private open air baths is a real treat. One of the best surprisingly and we've stayed in a a few ryokans. The bath salts in the room was a nice touch too (for those who rather soaked in the room) We had a wonderful stay!

FranceNothing special to report.
This room was reserved for my daughter and her partner so did not experience it myself but it looked alright and the hotel although not new seems in good order. The staff at the front desk seems to be well trained and efficient. The structure of the hotel is quite charming with its British wooden style decoration and large stuffed bears spread out in the lobby...As we live in Karuizawa ourselves, our daughter and her partner did not experience the hotel meal options.

JapanThe price is a little steep, but it’s probably because we booked quite late and it was also peak season.
We absolutely love the size of the room. It was huge and the bed was very comfortable too. Decorations of the hotel were tastily done and it just gave us a very comfortable feeling. The restaurant breakfast is a must to try because the ingredients, the bread are just fantastic. They individually made the bun and the ambience was so comfortable. We stayed for 2 nights and we went for their breakfast for two morning. They do also have nice dinner bar also and feel free to try them too. But the breakfast was the highlight.

JapanRooms were smaller than expected. But manageable.
The hotel was really pretty. Not too far from the station but we took a cab to get there, having missed the shuttle. Given the proximity to the train station, it wasn't expensive. We got a nice welcome with a fireplace in the lobby. Our room was nice, although smaller than we expected. We did manage. It also had a nice small balcony with a nice view of the courtyard behind the hotel as it snowed. The restaurant was the highlight. The setting was romantic, the food top-notch and we did have a nice time. They also have a shuttle at checkout time that took us back to the train / Shinkansen station. It's a free shuttle that leaves at set times and I would highly recommend it, particularly if it is raining or snowing.

United StatesWe had 2 meals...dinner at the Wine Tavern and the breakfast buffet. The dinner was horrible...tasteless and overpriced. The "healthy breakfast buffet" was enjoyable because I personally like vegetables and healthier options. The homemade milk bread was FABULOUS!!! The public baths were an interesting concept. You had to use a computer near the front desk to book a reservation for the many baths scattered throughout the property. My husband is a furo freak and normally will soak 3x per a 1 night stay but he only went once because he said it wasn't very hot or enjoyable.
Property felt like a Swiss Chalet in Karuizawa but the rooms felt like "Glamping". An interesting concept. Rooms were clean but dated. The website advertises newly renovated rooms but we obviously didn't pay the premium for these rooms so I understand you get what you pay for.
