Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

I don't like self- check-in so much, and would have preferred someone to ask around. But everything worked fine and all mails and questions have been answered immediately.

A little far away from the main attractions.
The self check-in was nice. The room was super clean, common spaces as well. AC worked well, comfy bed. Lots of amenities. The owners are very friendly.

The light from the bed above mine shined into my bed and they were up late. The bed was a little skinny and hard for my 66 year old body. The people sharing our room left the room door wide open and unlocked - we came back in the evening to find that but no one was there. We had locked the room door when we left, since our backpacks were in the room.
Close to Higashi Hagi station. Clean place, useful kitchen.

A little warm inside the buliding. It's fairly new (less than a year) so the isolation is probably the reason. In winter that might be good, but even in April it was already getting stuffy inside (opening the window over night helped). The kitchen lacked a few things (knives, spoons, oil (there was a frying pan and IH, but no oil and I don't carry it around when I travel), bowls).
Clean space, friendly owner, great location (view on the river, short walk to the city centre), bike rental from the owner possible, comfortable beds, lockers with keys, new towels every day, free tea and coffee.

The kitchen is only half equipped, I would recommend to add the following: cooking oil, metal forks and knives (single-use items are not good for the environment and also not very practical to use), spoons and plates.
The place looks brand new, the kitchen looks out on the river. We were very few people when I stayed and it felt very cozy chilling in the kitchen. It’s self check-in so don’t expect to see staff, although I myself met the nice owner in the morning when she came for cleaning.

The price is a bit high; pretty far from the old town; check in could seem a bit complicated if you arrive after the bike shop is closed; no restaurant in the area...
Close to the train station if you have to catch a train in the morning; renting bikes for free together with a map of the area (the office is in the bike shop); friendly staff; nice view from the window...

Since there ae no staff, registering online was a pain, as was getting in the front door since the instructions weren't complete (you need to touch the lock symbol after entering the code). The kitchen could benefit from proper cutlery as opposed to plastic spoons and forks. I would have liked to have left my luggage after checking out to see some sights but feared I wouldn't be able to get in to collect it. The mattresses are too thin (in my opinion).
It's a very neat, well designed, little hostel.

Honestly, for what you pay, nothing really struck as being bad. Would be nitpicking at this point. Maybe the lack of laundry facilities? That would probably be the only negative.
Super friendly hosts, understandable and very hospitable. The guesthouse itself is on the second floor of a motorcycle shop/workshop. Very clean, modern and quiet, not to mention comfortable. Location is also quite good, close enough walking distance to the center of Hagi, all of the facilities you'd ever need! Lovely.
