How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Great welcome from the owner. Very comfortable room. Convenient for all the sights of Koyasan. Bus stop and parking 2 minutes walk away.

I am frequently traveling and there is no single thing I can complain about. Tommy is fine in every meaning.
Breakfast, this is family operated business. Breakfast next door is delicious, superb cakes homemade by owners wife. Cool hummus sandwich with egg on side and a fruit. House guests have 20% discount, we eat a lot. Carrot cake is s must:) House is renovated, wc the newest typest, super clean. Cup ramen and snack for free in the room, kettle to make tea, tea was there as well. I stayed there second time and I want to return.

We stayed at a family room and it was big enough for the 4 of us. The beds in the bedroom were really comfortable. The room clean and bathroom well equipped. It is a bit outdated but everything is really well maintained and works perfectly! The free snacks and water were highly appreciated. The host is truly very kind and gives good advice on what to do - for free! For breakfast we recommend the cafe of the same owner. We recommend staying here instead of at at temple.

It was a very pleasant experience staying at Guest House Tommy. It was clean, comfortable and is in a great location. The staff were friendly and gave us helpful information about where to eat and things to do in the area. Tommy’s Cafe offers a delicious breakfast. It’s nicely decorated and the owner are super friendly.

I stayed in the double room apartment with the balcony, and it was absolutely lovely! Super comfortable bed, lovely quiet location, a 30 second walk from the bus station, and within easy (flat) walking distance to everything else in town. Tommy was a very friendly and helpful host, with lots of advice about what to do in town, and even had a little flip book of activities/locations with maps included that he left on a table near the entrance. There were free cup noodles, snacks, and bottled water left in the room, and clean towels (and extra snacks!) delivered after two nights stay without having to request them, which was a really nice touch. I loved my stay here, and will definitely be returning next time I'm in town :)

Great location, the room was like new, clean and well equipped. Tommy is very nice and gives best advices on activities in the area. Tha cafeteria opening at 8 is also great.

The stay was very good, except for a sporadic creaking noise from the room's walls/ceiling at night, which may be attributed to minor expansion/contraction of the building due to thermal fluctuations, or mechanical noise from the air-conditioning. The noise went away after a while and did not bother my sleep.
Highly recommended. Private shower and toilet facilities within the room, hospitable and friendly host, clean room, great location in the middle of Koyasan town. Great for singles or couples wanting to explore both sides of Koyasan on foot from Daimon Gate to Okunoin. Air-conditioning has both cooling and heating functions, making it a lifesaver for warm days and cold nights. Host Tommy and madam makes you feel welcomed and takes time to introduce the nearby attractions and eateries, and his cafe nana has one of the best latte to offer.

Tommy is so friendly and helpful. The room was great and well priced for Koyasan prices! In a good central location with Tommy's cafe nextdoor also! You must go to the Cemetery nearby it's stunning!

The property is easy to find. Room we had was a bit small, but super clean and had a comfortable bed. All the necessities you need is in your room. Wifi is good. Ventilation good. Overall good!

The rooms are small but fully equipped. The staff showed us everything and even recommended some local restaurants. The value for money in Koyasan is really good. By the way, we were a bit disappointed that the café next to the hotel was closed.

First of all, Koyasan is an amazing place—so beautiful and peaceful, perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle. One of the most enjoyable experiences of the trip! Now I want to come back for a few days and just walk, walk, walk. At the guesthouse, the four of us stayed in a suitable room, and it was very comfortable—two bedrooms, our own toilet and bathroom, a washing machine, a kettle, and dishes. Everything was clean and aesthetically pleasing. The location was also great—equally close to the main attractions, with several good restaurants nearby, and if needed, the bus stop was just a couple of steps away.
