Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThis ryokan Is for travelers Who want to experience the japanese traditional room in a cheap way. The structure itself Is clear enough and the futon Is quite relaxing, in my opinion the bathroom Is a bit narrow. The quality price factor Is however perfect and at this price Is almost impossible to find a spot in a so quiet but at the same time central Place in Kyoto

United StatesOther people have commented on the shortcomings of this place (old lady entering your room without permission, a few cockroaches, cat in heat outside meowing all night, and terrible terrible terrible WiFi). Did I say WiFi doesn’t work??!!!
Great location. A short taxi ride away from Tokyo Station or 15 min walk. The price is very good for Kyoto and you get decent value for money. Big room, good aircon and bathroom (heated toilet seat is great).

NetherlandsThere is no elevator to the upper floors. I’ve slept in many Japanese style rooms and I absolutely love them, but this one was not comfortable. The futon was too thin. And although there were many pillows to choose from, they were not clean (everything else was clean though)
The owner was very nice and helpful. The location is great as well! Pretty good for short term stay!

United StatesThe room seemed lived in, there was a small desk with a random laptop on it and sandals outside on the balcony that weren’t ours.
It had a microwave and fridge, more than enough electrical outlets and ample space to chill in. You are able to do your laundry in their washer and dryer (for a small fee)

FranceThe receptionist is rude, and he is banging doors every day at the lobby area. Such attitude is inappropriate and unacceptable. He is staying in room 107 while the other guest in room 101 has to face a lot of disturbances because of the in and out at the entrance of every guests days and nights.... I previously asked for a quiet area as possible!
This Ryokan is central and near to all Kyotos'activities. The old lady working hard maintaining yhe cleanness of the Ryokan.

RussiaThe staff doesn't speak English very well, but the translator helps. There is no elevator and if you have a large or heavy suitcase it will be quite difficult to drag it up. The cleaning in the room is not perfect, the trash was not always taken out.
Great location, close to both subway and bus stations. Also easy to walk to Kyoto main station. Nice room, everything is comfortable, good experience in traditional Japanese environment for little money.

United StatesSleeping situation was uncomfortable. Found the futons to be extremely firm and I was only given one small pillow. The other pillows in the closet didn't have covers. Wifi was spotty.
Great location. Used the nearby train station to get to Fushimi Inari and Osaka. Walking distance to certain other attractions. They had some umbrellas you can use. Room had balcony, mini fridge, large table, and heater.

SingaporeI was surprised by the staff who came knocking at 720am and if you dont answer, will unlock the room and come in. This happened 3 time out of my 4 night stay.i have never experience any hotel doing such before, So be prepared if you stay here. The staff need to be responded. Lol. I was also silly to think it has elevator. Having a heavy luggage and being given third floor didnt help the experience.
Superb location, next to bus stop and train station. These 2 will bring you to most places.Tatami Room come with everything you need including a laptop for surfing web. A great japan style experience for a first timer staying at an ryokan.

United StatesThe futon was a little uncomfortable compared to others I've slept on, but this isn't too much of an issue if you're used to sleeping in ryokans
It was great for the price. Though the two owners do not speak English they were very helpful and kind. Additionally the single room was exactly what I expected.

Canadanot a problem for me at all, and I like narrow stairs and narrow washrooms, but I get wide old style tatami rooms and futons... it is a basic nice place, not for everyone perhaps; those who like it keep coming back, those who dont, have many choices
my favorite simple low price Inn in Kyoto; it has its charms, is narrow, but rooms are old style and fine; bathrooms are very narrow, so not for large foreign guests, but for me it is fine; it is not for eceryone, but it is my style, and I prefer to save a lot of yen and not deal with larger hotels or touristy Inns..
