Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaJapanese style rooms can be awkward for westerners, but I found it ok for a few days.
All but one of the Nyuto onsens are older properties, and this is certainly a somewhat older property but it is well maintained, clean, has comfortable Japanese style rooms and helpful staff. There is a small gift shop, and a self-serve drinks area. Sulphur onsen, but the sulphur smell doesn't permeate the rest of the building. Easy to reach by public bus from Tazawako, and the small shuttle bus will run you around to the other onsens. Meals provided and were a great range of local dishes and products.

South AfricaThe sink in the room occasionally leaked from the base, so I had to ration the water flow.
Everything in this hotel was amazing. I was flabbergasted at how wonderful the baths were, and how comfortable the futon actual is. Tatami mats are such a blessing for the feet for how soft they are. The complementary drinks such as tea or Coke was a great touch from when you come out of the bath. The location was spectacular as I got to see so much snow, and that too I got to experience an open bath in the snow was picturesque. I honestly miss it so much. There was availability of extra blankets as well but the bedding already provided was so soft I did not even notice the fact it was cold outside (there is a heater in the room as well). Breakfast was fantastic (I missed out on dinner so I cannot comment but that would probably be great as well), it was a buffet style with a lot of different Japanese breakfast dishes to try from, such as fish, mini hot dogs, miso and rice, croquettes etc, so much so I had three rounds of breakfast.

Hong KongThe dinner was great with a variety of hot, cold food as well as desserts! There was matcha icecream too! The outdoor onsen was one of my favourite, to have hotpool in the snow is top of my bracket list! There was free drinks and coffee machine for us to use which is great in the winter.

AustraliaThe futon beds were a little harder than others we have used but still ok.
The front desk staff were extremely helpful and kind. The location amongst the birch forest was beautiful. The buffet dinner and breakfasts were both lovely, and even though we stayed for 2 nights, we found different selections and specialty dishes at the different meals to enjoy. My children enhoyed the ice cream station and hot chocolate machine also. They also sold a good selection of sake in the store. The onsen baths were wonderful, especially the outdoor one. The coin washing machine and free dryers were a helpful addition.

ThailandBuilding is a bit outdated but it’s normal for traditional ryokan.
Location is on top of the hill it’s far away from village but I love it. Hot spring water is super good quality. Service is nice and friendly. Breakfast and dinner is buffet but lots of special menu served at table by staffs and some are freshly cooked by chef.

United StatesThere was a little misunderstanding with the staff about meals but that was because they did not understand English. They did their best I think.

United StatesThere are no private showers in the room. You have to use communal showers in the Onsen which isn't as convenient or private.
Great location to Onsen hop. They help you get to the Onsen in Nyuto. Very relaxing resort and great food was included in the stay. Onsen was also very nice. Great view.

IndonesiaYukata size doesn't cover my friend's size who is 130kg but it is understandable. Pillows are special and need some time to get used to :)
The view, the snow, the accomodation, the onsen, everything to be precise. Worth it to travel all the way to Nyuto Onsen for that. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Even after having dinner, staffs told us to bring some food up to hotel room! Never come across staffs that asked us to do that.

PhilippinesNothing really, but if there is something that I should say, probably that;s the onsen cleaning time. I tried to go after breakfast and it was cleaning time. Anyways, I was able to go again in other time.
It has indoor and outdoor onsen! The ambiance of the outdoor onsen in the winter is very spectacular. They also have massage chairs and foot massages. The booking comes with delicious and sufficient buffet breakfast and dinner. When I couldn't book the airport shuttle because I could not speak Japanese well, the staff called them on my behalf and made sure that The room is very nice and clean. It's just a walk away from other onsen. You can 'rent' coat, boots, and towels for free if you want to walk outside and go to other onsen.
