Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI don’t have anything negative to say, but a few tips might be helpful for future guests. While the facilities are a bit dated, the charm of the place lies in how authentically Japanese it feels—far from the typical tourist experience. The shuttle aligns with the ferry schedule, but if you miss it, the walk is actually quite enjoyable. I truly hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
Just as others have said, this was truly the highlight of my trip to Japan. I felt immersed in the culture in such a real and personal way. The bunnies made us feel like we were walking through a movie set, the peaceful scenery was incredibly inviting, and the buffet food exceeded all expectations—especially for a seafood lover like me! Staying in the traditional Japanese-style accommodations was such a unique experience. It came with a bit of a learning curve—figuring out how to set up the futons, care for the tatami floors, and wear the yukatas (which many locals wore to the buffet)—but it made everything feel that much more special. My only regret? Not staying longer for exploring the beauty of the island... shrines, trails, history. This place definitely deserves a return visit.

United StatesEverything! This was a highlight of our trip to Japan. While the facility itself is a little older, it is clean and well kept. The staff were so kind and many spoke English if that is something you need. They had activities at night (in Japanese but with English handouts) which I appreciated and were so friendly and kind. The buffets for breakfast and dinner were really good and had lots of options. I’d absolutely stay here again!

NetherlandsWe enjoyed everything! The hotel could do with some modernization, but all the basics are there, and everything was clean.
Very nice island resort. At the resort, it gets busy during the day with tourists from the mainland. During the evening far less people are about. If you need peace and quiet during the day, go around the corner of the hotel! The bunnies are everywhere, even on the mountaintop.

United StatesWe had the Japanese style room and the staff forgot to setup the bedding on the floor even though we indicated during check-in that we would like to have the beds made for us. Once I notified the front reception desk staff, they came right away to make the beds and apologized.
Staff workers were all very polite. The buffet dinner and breakfast were excellent with many choices. Rented electric bicycles from the hotel and rode around the island (they said 30 minutes if you just ride around). We took 2 1/2 hours because we made many stops to feed the rabbits along the way and walked up to the 360 degree viewing point.

AustraliaWe opted for a Japanese style room, which the staff very kindly helped make up the bed for us. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, with a special shout out to Fujimoto, who went out of his way to give English translations for us during the evening firefly presentation put on by the hotel. The rabbits were everywhere! Remember to take food over with you as they do not sell rabbit food on the island. Highly recommended stay!

United StatesThe staff were exceptionally friendly and one man at the reception especially spoke amazing English. However, I think it may be good to have additional signage for foreigners or to give them additional instructions regarding the tatami region in the dining area. We were told not to wear the slippers into the tatami area but I noticed a foreigner lady wear them into the area. I think this is something that Japanese people may think is obvious but may not be so for others. And it would also help with the longevity for the tatami :)
This is the only hotel/accommodation on the bunny island. If you really like bunnies I strongly suggest staying because they are nocturnal and we saw so many more out roaming in the early mornings (around 7am). By 830 they had mostly dispersed. I imagine the bunnies will also be out at night but due to the presence of boars on the island, we decided against it. The property holds your luggage until your room is ready, so you can go in the morning to drop off your luggage and explore the island. Do note that you cannot purchase bunny food on the island. If you wish to feed the bunnies (and they only come to you for food), you need to purchase it at the little shop where you purchase tickets for the ferry to Ohkunoshima. We rented bikes from the property to explore the island. However, a lot of the main road is winding and you can't really see too far in front of you, and so a lot of the mountainous roads end up being no-bike zones. I loved the little gift shop. I bought a bottle of yuzu/black pepper dressing and have been loving it at home. The man running the shop was extremely kind and meticulous and wrapped the bottle up so nice for the return trip. I never had to worry about it breaking in transit. A public bath is available, but we chose to bathe in our room instead. It had a traditional Japanese style bathroom and my partner and I were able to enjoy bathing with a bathtub that actually comes up high enough to submerge most of the body. We had a room with two western style beds, which also had charging ports on the backboard. It was a great experience.

GermanyWe were hoping that the Buffet (Breakfast and Dinner) would offer a bit more vegetarian friendly options. But unfortunately it were only 1-2 options each time. Maybe it is possible to offer a bit vegetarian options in the future. It didn't need much just separate the beef, fish and vegetables a bit more for your international guest. Because I assume the Hotel attracts a lot of animal lovers / vegetarians with the surrounding rabbits.
It's obviously not about the hotel, it's about the island and the rabbits. If you enjoy being in nature and surrounded by animals I highly recommend to stay here! It's a totally different experience walking around the beach and the island after all other tourists are gone. (Bring enough foods for all the rabbits from the mainland!) The stuff are very friendly the hotel where clean. After the sun goes down you will also spot wild boars. But no worries they seem to be very friendly and just searching for left over food in the fields.

Location, location, location. An amazing and relaxing island with friendly rabbits, you can’t ask for more than that! Bike rental was fun and easy, and the onsen was lush. We even went for an early morning dip in the sea! Staff were lovely and always helpful when our lack of Japanese let us down.
