Despite the signs to be respectful of making noise, the guests in the adjoining room talked load until 3am. This does not reflect on the host or the property though.

Very nice property with several modern amenities for a ryokan. The host is very nice and the breakfast was delicious.

This place is a hidden gem. Amazing, traditional Japanese breakfast - don’t skip out on this. Rooms were very comfortable and well sized. Amenities great. The whole atmosphere was perfect; a blend of traditional with modern touches, peaceful and the onsens were lovely. Highly recommend.

The amenity pack offered to guests was a bit much. Most of the things I didn't use, but I fear that by leaving them in the room they will just be thrown away. It seems such a waste. Perhaps you could ask guests to pick what they want to put in the bag....)

This is a modernised ryokan offering excellent value and an artistic touch. My room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was spectacular – full of home-made goodness. (But don't order it if you are not up for a traditional Japanese breakfast of grilled fish, etc.)

My friend and I enjoyed our stay a lot. Perfect atmosphere in a calm and clean accomodation to start the day before finishing it with a nice bath in the private oncen. Rooms are as described with a lot of space and everything you need (like sanitary accessoires, Internet, TV, place to sit and eat, fridge etc.). If you're looking for a Ryokan to stay this is the place. The host is very friendly and also a great help regarding recommendations in Chichibu.

Location is a little bit difficult to get from station, especially in the dark time (nothing is illuminated)

Honestly, nothing. I have felt really welcomed and I pray that I will be able to come back someday!

Wonderful host and staff, they always made sure we were comfortable. Even gave recommendations about what to do in the area! Breakfast was amazing, we were able to select different kind of fish each morning. The baths are amazing also and the rooms are clean. Great service in english as well as japanese. The ryokan is very peaceful!

It is totally not soundproof at all so when I woke in the middle of the night to use the restroom, i was worried that I might woke others up.

I like the interior and the details of the property. It was a very comfortable ryokan with 2 private/shared bathroom/onsen to use. The breakfast was really worth it. The room was also big enough for 2 people and there was even dyson hairdryer!

Uncommon curfew mposed by the management.

A very well organized ryokan stay and the staff are friendly, loved the room, private onsen, the external makeup room and the in between traditional & classic breakfast.

One thing I didn’t like about the property is that there is nothing to not like about :D

I really like Maekawa’s hospitality! Enjoyed my stay with my gf throughout, the onzen bath was really really cool & nice to have since Chichibu is freezing cold during winter. We get to wear the traditional Nemaki after the bath too.

We had a beautiful view from our room. Our host spoke excellent English, and we were provided with many amenities. It was so good to have not only a private bathroom in our room, but to be able to privately use the onsen style bath that are available for the whole accommodation. You simply flip a sign to show that bathroom is in use, and nobody else will come in. Perfect for more shy people like myself who don't love the idea of sharing a bath with strangers. The accommodation is only a 10 minute walk from an area with lots of different bars/restaurants.

There isn't much sound proofing, so you can hear other guests walking by the corridor. But there is a curfew/silent hours, which helps mitigate the impact that might have on your sleep.

The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and the ryokan's owner is a gem of a host. He helped us carry very heavy suitcases up the stairs, prepared huge traditional breakfasts, and even helped us get reservations for local restaurants during a holiday weekend. He was a delight to interact with. The ryokan has shared onsens an toilets, but they are super clean and thoughtfully designed.

Nothing bad to say about this place: traditional-style ryokan with beautiful and clean facilities. We booked a large room with views of the forest - it was cosy and zen. The futon mattresses were comfy, the private onsen was so relaxing and the staff was friendly and courteous. There was free parking available and it was easy to find. The drive into chichibu is spectacular through the mountains.

The curfew is a bit odd. It would be better if there was a keypad which can allow people back into the building after hours. The bathrooms didn’t have a privacy screen and we were worried people could see into the bathroom.

The owner was incredibly friendly He speaks both English and Japanese and really made an effort to make us feel welcome. The room was comfortable and tucked away in a corner which made it more private and quiet. I particularly appreciated that there were sanitary towels for ladies in the toilets in case of emergency. such a small but good detail. The breakfast exceeded our expectations and we were stuffed, ready to take on the day.

Everything was perfect

The traditional atmosphere of the ryokan, its location allowing complete change of scenery were magical components of our stay. We particularly enjoyed the host conversation and kindness. Thank you for your hospitality!
