How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe manager is very friendly and kind. The room was very comfortable, in the traditional Japanese ryokan style, with a futon bed, tea set, television, good wifi and good heating. The shared facilities (toilet and shower) were very clean. Towels and a yukata are provided. The area is residential and there is no noise from the street
The walls are thin and there can be noise from other residents, such as from their doors closing. However, this seems inevitable for this kind of traditional inn.
Thank you for using our hotel this time. I am happy to be able to help you have a comfortable trip. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we are currently undergoing soundproofing work, but we will continue to work hard to make your stay even more comfortable, so please come back again in the future.

Verified reviewThe traditional Japanese style room was very beautiful and spacious. And the service was very friendly and helpful. The daughter of the owner recommended us a local dish to try (taiyaki with red bean paste).
Some areas in the hallway and in the bathroom were a bit run down and didn’t feel very clean. But the toilet itself was clean.

Verified reviewThe price
Walls are so thin that I could hear the neighbors snoring or making any other sound. Impossible to sleep. I've slept in capsules hotel more sound-proofed.
Thank you for using our service. Soundproofing work has started. We will continue to improve our facilities to make them more comfortable, so please use us again.

Verified reviewLocation was alright, price was very good, owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, room was spacious.
Was abruptly woken up by cleaning staff in the morning when they tried opening my door with their own key.
Thank you for using our service. We apologize for the mistake made by the cleaning staff. We apologize for the inconvenience and we hope you had a great time. Let's talk more about it another time. thank you very much.

Verified reviewThe rooms were spacious and clean, it's nice if you want to stay in a typical ryokan. Location was good and owner was friendly.
Showers are in the onsen and not private. So if there's someone with you at the same time, you need to have your shower 'together'. We weren't fully aware of this and although it is a big part of the Japanese culture, we would've preferred a private shower. I think it was quite expensive for what you got as well.

Verified reviewThe property had big rooms, there was also a sink the room as well as the shared bathrooms. It had a traditional Japanese feel, and although the place itself was quite dated, it felt comfortable! There is an English information sheet available at check in.
They do request you to leave your room from about 10 am-3 pm for cleaning if you are staying multiple nights, although the other areas are open all day.
Thank you for using our service. Regarding the case of staying multiple nights, there was an error in the English information sheet. I'm sorry. The statement that the hot spring baths will not be open from 10am to 3pm due to cleaning is correct, so you can use your room without any problem. Therefore, we will not ask you to leave the room. We apologize for the error in the English notation.

The pillow is beaded and fairly difficult to sleep on.
Thank you for using our services. All pillows were replaced with more comfortable ones. We would appreciate it if you could use us again if you have a chance.

Verified reviewAn authentic Japanese experience. Great breakfast can be ordered. A small Onsen in the property. A quiet location with a Konbini and restaurants nearby. The Inn is in the suburbs far from the city centre but there is a bus stop on the main road with attached timetable so it is easy to get into the station area. Very friendly and obliging Host and Hostess but be aware no English is spoken so a little Japanese language knowledge goes a long way.
Sleeping arrangements ate traditional Futons on a hard Tatami floor and the small hard pillow would probably be not to Westerner’s liking. However extra mattresses which are kept in the cupboards could help to alleviate any discomfort.
Thank you for using our hotel this time. I think it was a little inconvenient because it was Japanese bedding.I'll do my best to study English. thank you
