How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe attentiveness of the owner, traditional style room with great views of Mount Fuji.
The shared showers/onsen were a bit tired.

Verified reviewLocation was great. Located right next to Lake Yamanakako. Breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji. Service was great. Very accommodating. Plus you can also reserve your own private onsen.
No breakfast/dinner served. Toilets and sinks are not located your room and are shared between guests. Private onsen makes up for it.

Verified reviewNice view on mount fuji and spacious room. The free onsen is also good and well maintained
The room was super dated with stains on the wall, very old tatami flooring and overall not well maintained. I think they never renovated. A pity, since the location is nice

Verified reviewIncluded onsen. You need to reserve some time but there are 2 onsens and it was not a problem to get reservation. Very nice view of Mt Fuji from the garden. Very nice and friendly staff. Room was clean and the whole experience was 10/10

Verified reviewThe staff was very kind and let me rest in the hall since I arrived early, and they gave me my room earlier than expected. The onsen was also very clean. There’s a laundry machine available for 200 yen, and free detergent and softener are provided.

Verified reviewVery big room with traditional aesthetics and a balcony (I didn't get ot see it, but if you are lucky you should get a view of Mount Fuji). I wanted to experience a ryokan but not sleep on the ground and the room I chose had a bed as well as the option to sleep the traditional way. You only have a sink and toilet in the room, but get a private access to a very nice onsen once in the evening and once in the morning. The common areas are also very nice.
Some corners of the room were quite dusty (aspecially behind the bed).

Verified reviewThe hotel was incredibly nice. The staff was very accommodating and nice as well. They made sure that I was taken care of. When I made a mistake with the dryer they reimbursed me. They accommodated my desire to read late at night in the lobby as well. Overall great experience!

Verified reviewI can not say enough good things about this place; we absolutely loved it! The view of Mr.Fuji from the private garden is spectacular. Our host was so lovely and helpful. The room was huge even by western standards, but especially considering the compact Japanese standard. The onsen is magnificent! 100stars!

Verified review- Upgraded to a larger room with a window view of Mount Fuji for no extra cost. - Onsen is private for you once you book a time slot. - Large common room area for cooking and relaxing. - Relatively quiet, only a few people when I visited.
- I didn’t have an issue, but just be aware that insects/spiders are about, and they may enter your room if you don’t close the windows. - Not an issue for myself, but a heads up that the accomodation is about 500m away from the main road bus-stop, up a slight incline.

Verified reviewStunning views of Mount Fuji directly out of the bedroom window. Friendly helpful staff and a lovely quiet , peaceful location. We found the onsen to be really hot, much hotter than other hotels we have stayed in. The hotel does not provide meals but there is a wonderful bakery/cafe 300m away to the south for morning breakfasts on a terrace. Overall, the hotel grew on us the longer we stayed.
Fortunately there were only two of us because our Standard Family Room would have been really tight on space with anyone else. The double bed was only big enough for one person so the other person used a futon which was not particularly comfortable. Each room has a toilet but no shower or bath so everyone has to book a 40min slot to use one of the two available onsens either to shower or use the onsen spa bath. This requires a certain amount of forward planning each day which is a bit of a pain.

Verified reviewDuring our trip to Japan, we spent one night at Hatago Tsubakiya since we really wanted to experience the ryokan stay and we wanted to see Mt. Fuji. The room was very big, with also the option of the futon which we did try and was more comfortable than expected. A very big plus of the room was that we could see Mt. Fuji from the window, which was a very nice surprise in the morning, since the day before we were unlucky and we couldn't see it from any of the main iconic spots we went to. The hotel is very close to Lake Yamanaka and nearby there are several nice restaurants. The staff was exceptional! They did they best to support us and they were life savers since they helped us booking the last 2 remaining spots on one of the only remaining buses to Mishima Station. I highly recommend staying here, I would definitely come back

Verified reviewThe view of Mount Fuji from our room was brilliant.
The double bed in our room was the smallest and hardest bed I’ve ever slept on , the private onsen was a nice feature but be careful to assume that all rooms have showers as they are apart of using the private onsen.

Verified reviewThe tatami room was exactly what we expected with the futons being quite soft and pleasant to sleep on. The staff were very friendly, answered any of our enquiries, explained the accommodation and facilities well. One of the staff spoke English and google translate was our friend when we didn't understand each other.
I understand why they do reservations only for the onsens however the morning of our check out we would have liked to use it on more time but it was booked out. It would have been nice if it had more time slots.

Verified reviewWe had a room with great Mt. Fuji view - of course when it wasn't cloudy. Good contact with the staff. Quite close to Yamanakako lake - 10 minutes walk Bike rental service - cheap, bikes well prepared. Tennis table and billards table available for free. Clean and large onsen for private use.
Shared toilet for a couple of rooms. No showers except for the ones in the onsen which means you need to time your sightseeing to go back in time. Not even a washbasin in the room to clean your cups in. Basement with table tennis and other things - cold, with moldy smell.
