Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndonesiaThis hostel is located a bit away from the busy crowds, which makes it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring—but it's still easily accessible for getting around the city. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated the complimentary welcome drink upon arrival. We chose the private tatami room with futon, and it was a great experience—comfortable and a nice way to enjoy a more traditional style of accommodation. Other travelers staying here were also friendly and respectful, which added to the calm and pleasant atmosphere. Overall, a lovely and peaceful place to stay while still being close enough to enjoy everything the city has to offer.

Best hostel I have stayed in in Japan! Can absolutely recommend! Great hostel with a cozy living room and a nice small bar (with free welcome drinks) upfront which make the place very social. The best thing, however, is the staff: super welcoming and helpful with any questions, they are full of suggestions and come out to party once in awhile as well.

AustraliaMad Cat was clean, social and so cozy. It really felt like you were at home rather than at a hostel. It's perfect for solo travellers. Beds were also comfy. It's easy to get to the main areas of Osaka, and the staff give you lots of useful recommendations on food and what to do. Thanks to Florian, Yoshi, Rieko, Maru, and Kogo for the great stay!

CanadaIt a longer commute to the center, but really not that far.
I had a great time at Mad Cat Hostel. It's very small and feels like a home, which makes it very easy to talk to everyone around the living room table. I don't think the hostel can host more than 15-20 people. It was very clean and all of the amenities and more were included, even a drink every night at the bar. It's a mini-bar at the entrance, separate from the hostel, so don't get scared thinking this is a big party hostel. At first I was concerned that it was a bit far out outside the center of Osaka, but after Tokyo, this place was very close to the center. And it was great to be in a quieter area of town, as Osaka can be quite intense in the center. The staff and owner were super friendly and helpful, and the bed was very comfortable. I would definetely come back and I think it's a great place for someone who is looking for a longer stay as they have a big kitchen.

United StatesClean, comfortable, cozy, welcoming, and brimming with adorable cat decorations and mementos of the two adorable kitty hosts; I will be returning as soon as I can! The human hosts were kind, friendly, and helpful, with plenty of suggestions for where to eat, where to party, where to sightsee, and just what to do generally. Maru-chan and Kogo-chan were the sweetest little babies ever, so tame and soft! Please be kind and considerate of them! Be mindful of their space when they’re in their in their enclosed beds as that’s their safe space and they need to trust that there’s somewhere they can retreat to if they want to be unbothered as I’m sure it can be overwhelming and tiresome to be exposed to so many people all the time! The hostel provides many amenities, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, a washing machine, a kitchen stocked with spices and cookware and many outlets for charging. The information board is, well, very informative- read it all carefully! It even included a QR code leading to a bunch of pinned food places suitable for vegans and vegetarians as well as spots for cat lovers.

AustraliaMy favourite ever hostel, I have been here twice now! I stayed in the 4 bed female dorm. The beds are comfy and private with a curtain. You have plenty of space for your personal items. The convenience stores are super close and so is public transport. Going to the bar at night is really fun! I made so many friends. I had my birthday there and the owner Reiko bought me a lovely cake and everyone sang me happy birthday! It was so wholesome. Reiko, Yoshi and Florian are lovely as well, super helpful and just great people. I recommend Mad Cat to everyone I speak to!

United StatesI didn't drive, but there is no parking.
The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The free welcome drink is a nice touch. The kitties run the place lazing about. The bed was nice and clean. The female beds were all gone, so I used the mixed bed and it was fine. The hostel will provide recommendations and hold luggage for the day if you need it. They provide a towel and have a washing machine on site.

EgyptThat I didn't stay longer.
Such a warm and welcoming hostel. I only stayed for 1 night as I didn't have enough time in my original itinerary to stay longer in Osaka, but as soon as I walked in I knew it was a mistake and that I should have booked the place for longer. It's rare to find hostels that are both this comfortable, clean, and social all at the same time. You can tell that Reiko, the owner has put in a lot of effort to make it that way. In my opinion hostels like these are as much of an experience as any of the other attractions in the city, and this is an experience that you absolutely should not miss out on. Easily my favourite hostel in Japan. Will definitely be back in Osaka, hopefully in the near future, and will absolutely book this hostel again, this time for a few nights to get the full experience.

GermanySuper sweet and lovely hosts. Really welcoming. You get everything you need (towel, locked box for storage, free welcome drink 1x per day…) AND two cute cats. It’s really cat themed, so for the ones who adore cats > go there !! Totally recommend that place to stay in Osaka. Next metro station is about 10 mins foot walk. Grocery stores and restaurants are available close by.

CanadaNothing, stay was perfect!
This was by far my favourite stay on my trip! It's such a lovely hostel with even better hosts. Reiko, Yoshi and Florian were amazing and truly made the stay feel like home. The common room was set up in a way where talking with other guests felt natural and the bar up front gets you one free drink a day! It was someone's birthday during my stay, so Reiko took a bunch of guests out to a karaoke bar, they got her cake and sang her happy birthday. About the place itself - it has everything you need. They have extra toiletries for free (lotion, sunscreen, that sort of thing), clean bathrooms, clean living area, comfortable beds. There aren't too many people staying at the hostel at once so it never feels crammed. It's also exceptionally clean and you're only about a 10-minute walk to the nearest station. I day tripped to kyoto and nara during my stay here and had no issues. Long story short, if you're looking for a clean, fun, social (but not crazy party vibes) where you feel welcome and at home every single day, this is the place. I will for sure be coming back on my next trip to Japan! Thank you Reiko, Yoshi and Florian!!!!
