Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomAs mentioned before, the air conditioning was poor which meant that it was hot at night even with not using the duvet, but the bed was comfortable enough. There are 2 personal plug sockets although one is taken up by the lamp lighting they use which I found annoying as to avoid the wire being in your face while sleeping, you had to unplug and wrap it around the lamp (would be much easier if the lighting was operated via a switch)
I feel like this stay would've been more enjoyable and give a more cosy vibe with the wooden interior if it wasn't the peak of summer especially because there was only one AC which barely blew any cold air so they also use a small fan which also doesn't really do much. However, I enjoyed my stay- nice and friendly staff, nice communal area with some shelves of manga and a cute journal of previous travellers at the accomodation. The bathrooms were okay, showers were okay and clean. I liked that there was a hanger rack area where I could hang my towels to dry. Great location- next to the bus and only a short walk away from the great Matsumoto castle and was next to the nicest 711 that I have been in throughout my time in japan- makes me miss konbini stores :(

JapanSingle AC is not enough to handle the peak summer heat in the mixed rooms. Need to install one more to really make it comfortable.
Loved the old Japanese wooden architecture. It is really near the city centre so easy to reach. Also good place to mingle with people.

United StatesBeing an old house, floors are a bit creaky and stairs are steep. Not recommended for folks with mobility problems.
Loved the experience of staying in an old house. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Excellent experience!

JapanIt is apparently a 100 year old building, but extremely comfortable to stay in, with good overall facilities. Their official check in time is 21:00, but they let us check in at 22:00 as our bus was delayed.

Hong KongThe upper bunk is a little bit hot but acceptable.
Old but remains clean and heritage-ish style. Altho the floor “cry” a little bit when you step on it, it’s fun. The bunk is good and comfortable. Everything is good. As we were stuck in the crowds after the fireworks and we called for a delay check in, the wild-curl up staff is so nice to accept our pledge and kept the cute smiling face after being woke up by our arrival.

NetherlandsIt is a wooden building, so you will hear the other guests (though everyone was respectful when we were there) and there are only two showers so you have to time well if you’re in a rush.
This is a very cosy small hostel located 20 min walk and 10 min bus ride from Matsumoto station. Matsumoto castle is a 5-10 min walk and there are many restaurants in the area. It is especially suitable for people who like to cook themselves. The kitchen is very clean and well-stocked with even a little toaster oven. The staff is super friendly and helped us call car rentals and restaurants when not speaking Japanese was an issue

United StatesThere are many beds in the dorm area, so make sure you bring good earplugs. Someone (maybe staff?) lit incense during my stay and the smell was unpleasant to me.
Location is very close to Matsumoto Castle. Comfortable common areas for resting and hanging out. There is also a really good Italian cafe nearby I highly recommend (Miyabi).

Czech Republic-
the owner/receptionist was very kind and always with a smile on his face. he speaks good english and makes nice atmosphere. I have to admit that I did not expect a good night sleep, but I slept better than in single rooms previous 3 nights. other people were very considerate and quiet (thank you, if you are reading this, and sorry if I woke you up while leaving early morning). the capsule was completely dark (after turning off the lamp) which was great and with good temperature (not cold, not hot). capsule was big enough to fit all my backpacks, I could sit comfortably. there is fully equipped kitchen and big manga bookcase (in japanese). the house is 100 years old and has really nice atmosphere, while providing everything necesary (showers, hairdryers, hairstylers!). very close to matsumoto castle, 20 minute walk from station, easy to find once you manage to enter japanese name into the maps :) I sincerely recommend this place to everyone :)
