Honestly, just lovely. Very professional staff and service. Room was beautiful and bath was so relaxing! Breakfast and dinner were fantastic as well, the chef is amazing. Would definitely book again!

Not real futons

This is a budget ryokan and frankly a little tired compared to photos, but perfect fof someone wanting to experience a traditional stay. Dissapointed they were not real futons. But the staff were amazing, speak English well, have good items for sale and really wonderful..

I made a last-minute booking at Matsubaya Ryokan, and glad I chose this hotel. The location was excellent. Located in a quiet neighborhood and close to Kyoto Station and other places in the area. Staying at this hotel made my first trip to Japan even more memorable. They had a great Western and Japanese breakfast, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. In addition, the hotel's cleanliness, traditional ryokan room, and overall hotel atmosphere added to the experience. I highly recommend booking this hotel when visiting Kyoto, and I am looking forward to my next visit here.

Awesome little hotel to experience Japanese style living. Everything was well organized and the staff was helpful and friendly. They stored my luggage before my check in. Well located close to bus stations and not so far from the train station, they have a shared lounge and food options.

Nothing to complain

The ryokan offers modern comforts with a Japanese-style traditional flair. The room was spacious and super clean. The shower had excellent water pressure.other useful amenities included a laundrette,lounge room and vending machines for water and snacks. The ryokan was very conveniently located between the central station and the city centre. The staff were incredibly kind.

This was my first time staying at a ryokan, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was surprised by how small the bathroom was (though that wasn't a big deal to us). The hotel service was wonderful. This is a hotel with soul.

There is literally nothing to complain about

Everything was perfect! And I do not use that word lightly. The ladies at reception have great english, all is great. My room ( samurai style ) was authentic. The care very much and nothing is a problem. I was mindblown.

The location was a but outside if the main areas of Kyoto and metro stations, but good location in relation to the main Kyoto train station.

Absolutely love this place. If I could give more than 10, I definitely would. Staff is amazing and so friendly, And they really try to help you, and it is very immersive in the Japanese culture. Close to the main station and other metro station, so it is very convenient

Nothing…I found the futon bed a bit hard the first night but I quickly got used to it.

We had a lovely time…our son lives in Tokyo and had joined my husband and me…he suggested staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan and we couldn’t have been happier with our experience. We enjoyed the Onsen and the Japanese breakfast was fantastic. The staff were all so nice. The location is perfect, really close to the station and lots of interesting places to visit. Hope to come back one day .

The ryokan room for three people was spacious enough for the three of us. And great location too! Tokyo station is less than 10minutes walk but it’s in a quiet street . Shops are not far at all. Loved the location !

Traditional Japanese ryokans are more pricey than Western style hotels, but is definitely a must when visiting Japan. This Ryokan was listed in one of the recommendation blogs as one of the best in Kyoto. And it definitely did not disappointed. For all the stamp collectors - several available in reception to stamp in your notebook for memory. Room had everything traditional accommodation should have, cozy mattresses, tea and coffee maker, plenty storage space. For breakfast you can choose Japanese style of Western style and time slot when to have your breakfast. Both were great options. Location was really good as well - train station nearby, Higashi Hogan-ji Temple as well. Definitely recommend!

Good location. 25min walking to famous Nishiki market. Very clean and super friendly staff. The Japanese style room is really fun for the family. Japanese bath is affordable and massages service with free is provided
