The food was wonderful (particularly the course dinner), the rooms were cozy and there was a nice lounge with a fireplace to relax in. Along with an in-room shower, there are two private Japanese-style baths (cypress wood and eathernware tub) to enjoy a more relaxed bathing session. Location is a bit removed from Matsushima's main street, but it is only a 5-minute walk to the train station and the main sightseeing/shopping areas, so it is very convenient. Staff were very warm and attentive.

The road next to the hotel had some traffic throughout the night, which woke me up a few times, but I am a very light and sensitive sleeper.

Beautiful hotel in the middle of a hill overlooking Matsushima. Staff was very welcoming and kind! Breakfast was amazing, would definitely like to come back and try their dinner too.

The place is for a gastronomic sleep over with a delicious bistro menu. Was bit surprised that there isn’t really wine selection.

The room was a bit cold but the hotel provided us with an additional kerosene heater 🙂

A lovely old guesthouse with lots of ambience. The staff were super friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Free pick up and drop off at the station. A beautiful breakfast each morning. The onsen was also very nice. A short 5 minute walk to the centre of town.

The ensuite was one of those modular set ups and so small you could hardly turn around in there. Was better to use the onsen. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable.

The food was very good, especially the multi-course dinner with local ingredients. The owners are lovely and picked up and dropped us off at the train station. There is a cozy lounge with a fireplace for relaxing, and you can have private use of the two baths on the main floor. The tower provides a nice view of the bay.

We found the upstairs hallway to be quite dark (there was no light on outside our door so we had to use our mobile phone flashlights in order to open the door lock). The bathroom/toilet in the room is also very small and a little awkward to move around in. Perhaps it is seasonal and because the hotel is a little ways up the mountain, but there were many insects including a large number of kamemushi (stink bugs?) in the tower room, a couple in the bedroom, and a very large unidentifiable insect in the ladies washroom downstairs. The ladies washroom downstairs was also very dark, although that was because the lights were not fully turned on. We had a room facing the road and found that the sounds of passing vehicles was quite loud.

Lovely breakfast. French style building with pigeonnier being the view point. Very good onsen/bathing facilities. Reasonably priced for matsushima. Matsushima has boat trips, elegant Temple and onsen to visit. Needs a minimum of 2 days. We didn't know they did evening meals - is worth reserving this. Good music in the background in the lobby area. A room for business activities

Stairs to the room. Old fashioned room. Location is up a hill but easy and cheap taxi drive from the station.

It is quaint, homey, beautiful, quiet and peaceful. The baths were wonderful. The fireplace was so very nice and the smell of the logs was so nice. The owner was very kind and helpful. She even went out of her way to provide me her personal sewing kit so that I could fix my torn purse! I want to live there!

    Everything was exceptional.

Both the staff on day and night shifts are very kind and helpful. The breakfast is great albeit a little bit small in portion. There’s a loft that you can go up and watch the sunrise. I took very nice pictures from there during my stay.

The property has certainly gone through a good history. The room and washroom are rather small. Unlike the front desk and other utility area, the room looks very outdated.
