How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewOur hosts were so welcoming and the breakfast was exceptional - the best breakfast we have had in Japan! Going to the local public onsen felt like we were part of the locals in town. It felt like a very special place to stay and a nice break from the hotels.
This is Minpaku Suzuki. Thank you for praising our Country Breakfast. We look forward to seeing you again!

Verified reviewThe Suzukis are wonderful hosts! The traditional japanese room is big and spacious, and while no bath is available on premise, Mr. Suzuki drove me to both a public bathhouse and local restaurant in the evenings. Mrs. Suzuki had a very large and delicious japanese meal cooked up for breakfast. The pair were even kind enough to help me plan out my trip around the local area after breakfast! Located a short walk away from Hiraizumi station and an even shorter walk to the nearby Mōtsū-ji, I highly recommend Minpaku Suzuki to anyone interested in staying in Hiraizumi! Will definitely be planning another stay!

Verified reviewBoth the hosts are very nice and they are really helpful to suggest things to see and to do in Hiraizumi. Wonderful experience in the onsen and at the restaurant. The breakfast was superb. The room is very spacious with TV, wifi, fridge, kettle for tea and coffee. Ask to Mr Suzuki to turn the heater on because it is very cold in winter time. The Minpaku is only 10 minutes on foot from the train station, 3 minutes to Motsuji temple and 20 minutes an foot from Chousun temple. Takkoku no Iwaya is 5 km far away, so you need a bike to reach it.

Verified reviewVery easy to find, they even hung a plate with my name on the door. I could basically use the entire second floor. The owner took me by car to a dinner place, the hot springs and to the train station. Very kind! Breakfast was very generous as well.

Verified reviewVery comfortable with a very large, typical Japanese bedroom nicely decorated and all necessary amenities. Good location between the train station (10 minutes walk) and Hiraizumi’s historical sites (10 minutes walk as well to the closest one). Charming village, clean and full of flowers. The owners are extremely kind and fully dedicated to their guests, as there is only one room in the property.
Everything is perfect but there is no shower for the guests, which actually provides an opportunity to use the nearby public bath (onsen) with free transfer by the owner.

Verified reviewStaying in the Japanese resident is a different experience. It gave me the opportunity to closely feel the Japanese lifestyle, to understand the Japanese culture more. The hosts are very nice people. The breakfast was superb. The rice was very fresh and perfectly made. It was the best Japanese breakfast in my 18 days Japan trip.
I didn't feel very good about the way the bedding was made. There was no sheet cover for the blanket and they only used a tower to cover the top edge of the blanket. Also, there is no shower for the guests in the house and the host sends the guests to the nearby hotel to use the public bath there. The extra cost for the bath may not be a big deal for most people but not everyone feels comfortable for using the public bath.

Verified reviewMr Suzuki and his family are very warm and friendly. I like the house as it's very nicely decorated and is very clean. I had the best breakfast that Mrs Suzuki prepared. I also like the various snacks that she prepared when I arrived, returned from my day trip and onsen.
If there is an option to take a hot bath instead of going to the onsen will be good.

Verified reviewThe people were very friendly and helpful. The room was big and very clean and everything needed was provided. The food was delicious with a lot of variation within the same meal and the quantity was more than enough for an average eater. The location was excellent for sightseeing the area of Hiraizumi and Ichinoseki.
For my one night stay, there were no negative points.

Verified reviewI had an amazing stay there. The host were extremely friendly and tried to speak with me as much as possible, even though I can barely speak any Japanese. The room was a nice traditional style Japanese room with tatami and futon. The breakfast was amazing and probably the most nutritious breakfast I had in my entire life. Furthermore as already mentioned by other people they take you to the local onsen and restaurants by car. Overall a fantastic experience. Be aware: Due to the nature of the house it can get very cold in the room in winter. However the host will give you a heated mattress, an oil heater and multiple blankets to combat the low temperature which worked very well for me.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at Minpaku Suzuki! The hosts were very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. There is no bathroom but the nearby onsen is adequate. The breakfast was delicious, way above our expectations. Highly recommended!
