How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery kind people and the room, wow, truly beautiful and spacious. Also there was a konbini nearby, which is quite useful. Great place to unwind a bit.

Verified reviewThe family was very kind, friendly and helpful and the japanese traditional home was confortable and beautiful. I went solo traveling and I was very tired after my trip, trying the futon for the first time was fun and relaxing.

Verified reviewNo meal plan. There's no food in the house. However, talking to the owner, he said that a catering company could be asked if a big group uses Minna no Jika. There's a taxi company near the place that there's no problem to ask for one at any time.

Verified reviewMy stay at this guesthouse was fantastic. The room was beautifully designed and very comfortable, making it a relaxing retreat after a day of exploring. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. One of the practical highlights was having access to a laundry machine and a separate room for drying clothes, which was very convenient. The bathroom was clean and well-equipped, offering everything I needed for a comfortable stay.
nothing loved everything

Verified reviewThis is a location that is mainly accessible by car. Was very glad to find free parking. The building was beautiful and somewhat traditional. The beds were futon style and while they are definitely not the most comfortable futons I've slept on, it was still pleasant experience. If there are a lot of people, negotiating the shower situation can be tricky as there is only one available.
I wish there were more than one shower room.

Verified reviewThe owner was super friendly and helpful in accommodating our late check-in time after Kanto summer festival in Akita.
It would be helpful if there was a visible sign to locate the house. We arrived late and it was difficult to find the place. A small tea table in a bedroom would be appreciated to do makeup or write something.

Verified reviewI could go on for weeks about how amazing this ryokan was, but I'm not even sure where to start. The hosts were so friendly and kind, we talked at length about gardening and all the beautiful trees in their garden. Akita was a welcome break from the miserably hot and busy Tokyo, and was absolutely the countryside of Japan that I love most. Kadowaki-san's wife made my family some rice balls from ingredients she pulled from her garden, and it was ~divine~. They allowed me to use their washing machine, as long as I hung up my own laundry, which I didnt mind in the slightest! Also, anyone who loves nature--ALL of nature, including bugs!--will LOVE this place. It was really a peaceful meeting place between man and nature. I found a little bat sleeping in the shower room on one of the mornings and was just tickled pink! There were also some REALLY cool bugs.
Some people may be put off by the bugs. To people who are not used to "nature", they are very large bugs. However! The spiders are not venomous and only come out at night to hunt other bugs, so you probably wont see them anyways, unless you're weird like me and go out looking for them. If you don't like nature, you'll be miserable here. There's trees and bugs and wildlife. Its magical and beautiful and was a phenomenal place to stay. Only reason I wouldn't recommend it is so that it could stay a well-kept secret ;) PLEASE STAY HERE and appreciate all of Kadowaki-san's hard work!!

Verified reviewThe PERFECT place to stay in Akita. So quiet and beautiful. Surrounded by rice fields and a great place for sunset too. Hosts were so kind and friendly and rooms were spacious and cool. Would 100% recommend to anyone staying in Akita.
This wasn’t a problem for me as I had a car but it is about a 10 minute drive out of town so might be an issue if you’re not driving. If you have a car it’s perfect.

Verified reviewI loved this place! It was very easy to get to by car, and I was the only guest in the entire house. The owners are so nice, and always willing to chat with you. They don't know much English so it is better if you know Japanese. However, your stay will still be a very comfortable one as they go above and beyond to meet all your expectations.
Nothing at all!

Verified reviewThe house is super cool and ornate. The owner was extremely pleasant and served us tea on arrival. While most places give tea, it was nice that we didn't have to make it. Everything appears to be new construction or is extremely well maintained. In any case, it was all beautiful traditional Japanese style rooms with careful and pretty decoration. The rice paper sliding doors are backed with glass panels, which helps afford additional privacy not often given by such homes. The amenities were clean, functional, and well kept. 10/10 would stay again.
Really no complains.
