How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewService is fantastic, Ryota was a wonderful host, rooms are amazing very nice modern Japanese, super well equipped. Location is fine but maybe a bit far from metro (nothing dramatic). Probably our best hotel in one month Japan trip. Highly recommend it. You’ll spend a wonderful time.
Breakfast system is not very convenient in summer time (only from 8.30) where you have to wake up early and options may not be at European taste for breakfast. You’ve got a 7eleven next door or many nice options around.

Verified reviewWe had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The location is perfect — close to everything we needed, yet quiet enough for a relaxing night. The rooms were very comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. A special thank you to Ryota, who was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout our stay. His warm hospitality really made us feel welcome and taken care of. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. Great value, great location, and great service — we’ll definitely come back!

Verified reviewBig hotel room with very comfortable beds. We love the automatic Japanese toilet that opens when you enter the bathroom and the classical music. There is also a big bath tub ideal to for a hot bath after a long day of walking. The water pressure is good in the shower. There is also a kitchen counter, microwave oven, coffee pod machine ,mini ref. Bathroom amenities are very good . The hotel manager and staff speak very good English and are very attentive to our needs. They constantly communicate with us thru wats app. The hotel is about 10 minute walk to Kyoto - Kawaramachi train station, and is about 15-20 minutes to the Gion district.
Breakfast has very limited options (only sandwiches) coffee and juice. It is delivered late ( earliest in 830 am ) to the room. This is not ideal if you go want to visit the temples / tourist areas early to avoid the crowds. There is no full length mirror in the room. The closet is an open space with hangers, and a small cabinet with drawers.

Verified reviewFabulous staff, very helpful, kind and welcoming. Great location, 7/11 next door is superhandy, and a great coin laundry a short walk away. Easy walk to buses. Spacious and great to have a microwave and table in the room. Nice bathroom amenities. Great choice for a stay in Kyoto.
Not much hanging space for clothes. Pretty dark room overall.

Verified reviewThe staffs are amazing. They helped us get taxi and waited until we leave. All of them are very friendly and hospitable. The location is walkable from downtown strip. 7/11 is just next block. The room itself or should I say apartment was amazing. We highly recommend it. Best place we had so far. Very spacious and clean.
Nothing!

Verified reviewThe rooms were even more spacious and beautiful in person. Completely spotless and so incredible clean. The aesthetic was calming and very traditional. Our favorite part was the in room Onsen. We love it so much that on my way back through Kyoto I had to stay there again and it was just as amazing the second time. Breakfast is delicious and brought directly to your room. Would recommend to anyone staying in Kyoto over and over again. The staff were friendly and helpful, I enjoyed chatting with Mickey and Hiro! It's in a quiet area but walkable to the main attractions and easy to hail a taxi or Uber. The in room skincare was so good I bought several boxes of the face masks when I left!
Nothing, this hotel was the nicest of my four stays traveling throughout Japan.

Verified reviewIf you’re looking for the perfect place to stay in Kyoto , look no further. Hotel Muso is one of the most comfortable, spacious, modern, clean and calming hotels I have stayed across the world. We loved the generously sized rooms and the complimentary breakfast roll delivered to your room each day. This hotel is situated away from the busy tourist area, but still close enough to all you need (shops, restaurants, the river and authentic local streets). The manager Ryo and all the staff go above and beyond to help you at anytime, and even suggested us to use the rooftop for drinks in the evening . Ryo gave us many local recommendations for eating out and sights to visit . This was an excellent stay and I would highly recommend. (4 nights stayed )
