Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRestaurant was closed so no possibility to have breakfast or dinner. But this wasn’t a problem as we were able to bring in food and beers from outside. Nikkō shuts down early so you have to be organised and there are no places to eat nearby. Given that the facilities were not all provided I thought it didn’t represent best value for money especially when compared to our other hotels in Japan.
The spa was lovely and convenient and kept spotless. There are vending machines available with soft drinks and beers. There was a microwave so you could heat meal’s brought in from outside which was a life saver. It was a great base to explore the area. Nikkō really is a special place! A visit to the national park is a must.

BelarusOpen-air onsen was awesome. Staff allowed us to leave luggage early. Overall, we've got what we wanted. The location is a bit off, but we usually had dinner in the town and then rode on the last bus to reach the hotel.

AustraliaThe beds were hard and the furniture a little tired. The room was stifling especially the bathroom. Kettle provided was not near a plug socket.
It was close to bus stop but out of town. Plenty of storage.

United KingdomNot being allowed to use the hot spring bath as we have tattoos. I understood before coming to Japan tattoos were taboo in public baths but thought hotels would be ok but alas not in this one :-(
Great little hotel, convenient location for everywhere we wanted to visit whilst we were in Nikko. You didnt get to choose what you wanted for breakfast but it was not a problem as everyday you were greeted with fruit and yoghurt, soup, toast and a different main plate each day so we did not go without! Lovely place and would recommend!

AustraliaThe hotel is very old and is surrounded by other abandoned properties, it seems they really struggled with the pandemic. The showers are terrible which would be fine if you use the well equipped onsen but we couldn't with our child. The beds are not very comfortable and it's definitely showing its age.
The staff are wonderful and the breakfast is lovely, a short walk to Toshogu and other attractions.

AustraliaCould do with some more reasonably priced food options along with the nice multi-course offering. Had assumed that the snooker table was free, but it cost 11000 yen to use Did feel a bit out of the way from main Nikko, but really it's not that far.
The hotel is reasonably located from Nikko train station. It's right across from stop 13 on the tourist bus, around 15 minutes from the station. The area the hotel is in has seen better days with abandoned properties across the road and next door to it. The hotel itself is very neatly kept, but is feeling a little long in the tooth now. The onsite onsen(s) (male and female provided) are nice, with indoor and outdoor pools for each. There's not a lot of options close by for food, and so we opted for the dinner and breakfast to be added. Wasn't cheap, and actually doubled the overall cost of our stay (there were six of us), but was nice to have multi-course French meals.

AustraliaFor Nikko this was a really well priced hotel. The staff were friendly, and the room was really large. The onsen at the hotel was lovely, and we enjoyed it everyday. The hotel is a little far, but the staff would call us a taxi if we need, but it is close enough to walk to the shrines.

LuxembourgThe hotel is quite remote from the centre, although the location next to a bus stop offsets this point somewhat. The staff speaks very basic English and was not super helpful when asked to arrange for a taxi, for instance. They generally seem much more focused on following the protocol than on assisting their guests. Also, maybe a misinterpretation, but I had the impression that Japanese guests were more welcome than foreigners.
The onsen was a great plus. It was nicely arranged and very relaxing. Although the place is a bit dated and has its drawbacks, overall, the price is a good bargain for the standard offered.

United KingdomHotel very dated and could do with modernising. Was under the impression I could use the onsen with tattoos but told on arrival I wasn’t allowed which was disappointing. Hotel restaurant expensive so decided to eat out, but there aren’t many food options close by that are open in the evening. 30+ mins walk into Nikko for food. Bedroom was clean, but bathroom still had hairs on the walls/in the shower and smelt like an old people’s home.
Staff friendly and fairly helpful. Decent location, 15 mins on the bus from Tobu-Nikko station, 25 mins walk from World Heritage site which was the highlight of my stay - a must visit! Room was mostly clean and good size.
