Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIt was all amazing
This place was unlike anywhere I have stayed before. It is actually a heritage street in Kyoto that has been turned into a hotel. Each double is beautifully fitted out in a traditional Japanese design. Each room has its own outdoor bath. We paid for a Wagyu degustation for dinner and also for breakfast and both these meals were unique and very memorable - not to mention delicious! All the staff here are wonderful roo!

United KingdomWe were offered a complimentary gift (late check out, plum wine or another option). We asked for the plum wine but it wasn’t given to us. We didn’t ask on check out as we’d only got a rucksack as our luggage was in Osaka and it would have been awkward to carry for the remainder of our time in Kyoto
We really enjoyed our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki st. The accommodation was beautiful and really comfortable, we loved the stocked fridge and the reed diffuser which is free for you to take home (its smells wonderful and we can’t wait to open it!). The staff were friendly and very attentive and explained everything to us on arrival. The breakfast was also lovely and very filling. This is the first hotel we’ve stayed in in Japan where our 9 year old was given a separate bed which was a welcomed relief (it isn’t a standard in western countries and something we have never experienced in other countries)

CanadaWhile the design is creative and innovative, the use of multiple levels and steps in the unit, is challenging for anyone with balance or mobility issues. The staff were very receptive to this feedback.
Stunning redesign of a machiya. Innovative menu ( have the Oita Wagyu set) and the sweetest staff in Kyoto. Turn up the heat in the outdoor bath and let your muscles and mind relax.

NetherlandsWe loved the room! It was definitely a treat to have a bigger space in a room for a little while after several small hotel rooms. The room was beautiful and comfortable, and the traditional exterior was a dream. Of course one of the main reasons we booked this was to have a private onsen which was much needed after days of walking. It was really nice to be able to choose your preferred temperature. Additionally, we absolutely loved the dinner you can book at Bungo restaurant - highly recommend this! My partner had the full wagyu menu and I had the other meat menu which included sushi. My partner is a meat lover and I don’t eat meat as much but we were blown away by the menu, the combinations of the dishes and taste - we reminisced the menu the whole day today! We were also pleased that the chef still adapted the dishes to your preference; I like my meat a bit more cooked and this was no issue at all. The staff was super friendly and welcoming!

AustraliaThe lack of space to open out suitcases in the rooms, especially if 3 people are in one accommodation. It would have been nice to have some more savoury snacks in the lounge for those of us who don't like sugar. It is a small lounge so it can get overcrowded in the evening. Clearing up used glasses and plates more frequently would have been good too.
The facilities and hospitality are excellent. The Ochazuke breakfast was delightful and the restaurant itself is beautifully fitted out. We were in a private dining space since we were 5 people and it was absolutely divine looking. The staff were extremely helpful but wonderfully discreet in appearing only as required. The food was exquisite and almost too beautiful looking to eat. It was a visual delight for the senses. The bedrooms are well fitted out and very comfortable. The pyjamas are soft and beautiful and having one's own hot tub was luxurious and relaxing. The lounge is excellent with free flowing wine and sake for a few hours each evening. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. We enjoyed the tea blending session in the lounge in the evening. We didn't have time to book in for a kimono tying class but we would love to do it when we return next time. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Nazuna Tsubaki Street. we will definitely be back for a longer stay.

AustraliaThe water in the hot tub did not maintain its temperature.
The setting for Breakfast was superb as was the food and service. The Lounge facility for the evenings is also excellent though a few more savoury snacks would have been welcome. The staff are all extremely helpful and polite. The hot tub in each room is an amazing inclusion as are the soft pyjamas. The aesthetic of the entire room is superb. Thanks Nazuna Tsuki Street for a wonderful stay.

United StatesCheck-in was a bit awkward. We left our bags because our room wasn't ready and went off to explore. When we return much later and very tired, we were told the bags were in our room. We found 3 of our 5 bags in the entry room. I went back to the front desk to inquire about our other 2 bags and waited quite a long time for the previous shift to be contacted. It turns out the other 2 bags were in our room, but placed around the corner in a little cubby.
Breakfast was very good and location was also good. Room was very comfortable and outdoor bath was outstanding.

United StatesIt was a little too expensive in my opinion for one night stay. But, it was such a memory maker, that I am glad we did it anyway. Everything about it was memorable, and I would do it again (even though it was expensive). And, lodging is expensive everywhere around there, so it's the norm. And you get more by paying more at this spot.
The greeting and initial tea with intro to the location and amenities was really great. The dinner and breakfast were very very good. Dinner was exceptional in fact. The private bath outside the room was really fun and nice to have. The beds were great. The staff was amazing.
