Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe electrical outlets are not connected to each other. If you are the type who likes to close every light in the room, you will need to get up and turn off the lights for 3 sections.
The ryokan showcases a resort away from the hustle and bustle of the town feel, despite it being just a few minutes drive from the station, which is provided for free, and arrives a few minutes after you contact the front desk. You can pick any place in the onsen town for pick up and drop off as well. The meals are essentially an omakase style Japanese feast. And if you are a seafood fan, you will especially like the dinner, as they are present in many courses. Please note that if you do order them, you have to arrive in the dining hall around the appointed time. The onsen has a half bathouse (for the "sliver onsen") and half natural outdoor feel (for the "gold onsen"). During my stay, the onsen wasn't crowded and at times, I could be the only person there.

From the moment we arrived, the care and dedication of everyone at Negiya Ryofukaku was clear. The facilities were spotless—every space reflected the pride and effort of the staff in creating a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere. One of the highlights of our stay was the variety of onsen experiences offered. Each one was unique and deeply relaxing. If you’re visiting, trying the different baths is an absolute must! The kaiseki dinner was a true delight. Every bite was fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully composed—nothing overpowering, just beautifully balanced dishes that celebrated the essence of Japanese cuisine. Breakfast was simpler, but equally enjoyable. Each dish was delicious, well-balanced, and the colorful presentation added to the experience. We appreciated the variety offered, which made the meal feel special and nourishing. What made this stay unforgettable was the warmth and hospitality of the staff. From the front desk to the dining area, every team member made us feel genuinely welcome. Their kindness truly made this first Ryokan experience one that I’ll never forget.

Everything! The staff were unbelievably kind and accommodating. The location was tucked away in a mountainside and was very peaceful. Despite being a bit dated inside we appreciated the vintage feel of the place. It was meticulously maintained which is why it is able to retain it’s originality. The meals were amazing and were presented in an unforgettable manner. It was the highlight of our family’s trip to Japan. We were a family of four including 13 & 16 year old boys.

AustraliaWe would have liked to use the shared onsen, but could not due to tattoos. Perhaps there could be a short timeframe (1 hour) where people with tattoos can use the shared onsen.
Loved the traditional room and history of the building (including all the pictures around the place).

RussiaAn excellent traditional hotel to experience authentic Japanese customs and traditions. The property offers an exceptional kaiseki dinner and a unique traditional Japanese breakfast, both of which are exceptionally delicious. The surrounding grounds are beautifully maintained, creating a serene atmosphere. The rooms and onsen facilities are well-stocked with high-quality toiletries. The overall ambiance of the hotel is outstanding. Additionally, the hotel provides a designated smoking room for guests.

NetherlandsAs many people visit this area for onsen experience, the hotel experience break or make your stay in Arima Onsen. I personally loved the older facility that hold history and traditions, it has a character and you can see it through all areas including the room and onsen. It’s incredibly spacious, view of the forest immediately makes you relaxed. The dining experience is matching best restaurants in Osaka and Kyoto if not better. The staff is friendly, welcoming and warm that really made me feel like I was taken care of.
