Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The Next Chapter is a wonderful accommodation in a really nice place and village. We enjoyed our stay a lot and I can also recommend staying a bit longer in order to fully breathe in the place and its surroundings. It is a very laid back and quiet area but perfect to relax especially after cruising through Tokyo and Kyoto or other crowded places in Japan. We did not want to leave!

NetherlandsBeautiful traditional hotel with a modern twist located in a wonderful area. The hostel Alrik is very kind and has good tips for local activities. Besides, he made designed the place with style and keeps it clean. Even the beds were comfortable, whicht is quite rare for a Japanese style room. The neighbourhood offers some of the best mountain and Gorge views of the island. You can cook at the guesthouse or head out for diner at the local restaurants next to the guesthouse. Highly recommend to stay here.

United KingdomThis is, without a doubt, the most enchanting place we have stayed in Japan so far. Every aspect of this guesthouse exudes thoughtfulness and care, crafted with a deep sense of love for the details. The beds are luxuriously comfortable, everything gleams with immaculate cleanliness, and the communal spaces are a perfect blend of tranquility and functionality, ideal for unwinding or even working, thanks to the excellent Wi-Fi. Alrik, the heart and soul of this guesthouse, is an exceptional host—kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. His fluency in both English and Japanese were impressive, and his local recommendations were great - we even made friends with some of the local people and would love to return one day to see them all again. The village itself, nestled in the serene ambience of Kito's mountains and untouched nature, is a gem. It offers everything you could need: a delightful local restaurant, a couple of convenience stores, a delicious coffee stand, and even a small yet captivating photography gallery. Originally, we planned for just two nights here, but the allure of this place held us for five. It’s a testament to how magical it truly is, and we hope to return someday to relive the experience.

BulgariaEverything! The house is beautifully designed and we loved that it's different than most Japanese guest houses. It's lovely to have such a modern and cozy concept in a small town, away from the crowds. There is actually a lot of charm in the town and it was one of our favorite stops on a month-long trip to Japan. That is also because of Alrik, who manages the property. He was so kind, hospitable, and friendly! We felt welcomed as friends, not just hotel guests. He did everything we could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. There is a beautiful forest around, the view from the top of the town is lovely, so is the walk by the river and sunset. The Shinto shrine was such a special experience too! Thank you, Alrik and Next Chapter for this beautiful stay! We will come back to the area just to visit the guest house again, especially if Alrik is still running it!

Loved everything about my stay here. They upgraded me to a private room, which I was so grateful for. The guesthouse is a renovated ryokan with a beautiful modern design. The rooms, common areas, kitchen, and bathrooms were spacious and well-equipped. Nice and warm inside as it was built well to keep out the cold (some other places I stayed in were quite cold). Everything was clean and quiet, and the area was peaceful. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. There's a cafe a few minutes drive away, which was also really pretty. Kito Cafe Nishiumori. Will definitely be coming back next time!

GermanyReally nice guesthouse, tastefully renovated and decorated, situated in a quiet village where you can relax and enjoy the nature and village life. We spent 2 nights there and our stay was comfortable. Our room was big, the beds comfortable. The kitchen is nice and it has everything one need for preparing meals. JapanWow... what can I say? This place blew us away. The décor, the beds, the facilities - all of them were absolutely top class. We had a fantastic nights sleep and woke up feeling extremely refreshed the next day. Alrik was an amazing host - who answered a myriad of questions about life in rural Shikoku, and even offered us some free beers!
