Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Located in a tranquil village, the unique experience of staying in a historic temple makes the trip memorable. The chief monk and staff are friendly.

SwedenThe staff is there until certain hour, so check-in times are not very flexible. The shower was outside our room, but just a few meters away.
Amazing old style temple with awesome road that takes you to the hotel. There is a small common kitchen you can use to prepare a small dinner or breakfast. There was also a common bathtub that was very good.

SpainI loved this peaceful, quiet little place. I loved bell ringing, prayers, zen meditation and made the most out of the beautiful experience. I also enjoyed putting my legs into the river below. Thank you for having me :)

NorwayWe had a lovely time at the temple! We had four of the temple experiences and in addition got to ring the dong at sunset which was very special! From the experiences we took the statue tour, the morning prayer, zazen meditation and the monk porridge! The chief monk at the temple gave us great insight into the buddhist practices, and now we have tools to use forward in our own meditations! Ameneties and lodging were good, and we felt very welcome at the site.

United KingdomWe did a paid session on learning Japanese stamp making. The monk was nice but spent all our time on his phone and it would have been great to see him do a demonstration
A great place to stay and the temple was stunning

Amazing temple experience. We did the morning ceremony, porridge and zen meditation. We really liked talking to the monk to get more ideas about Buddhism and learn more

United StatesThe only thing I can think to note is that the one outlet I could locate in my bedroom was very high on the wall. I had to move some furniture around to balance my phone while plugged in, because my charging cord was too short to reach the floor.
The property and room were both beautiful and very well maintained. The caretaker took great care to provide me details to make my stay comfortable, and I loved the extra experiences I added on (meal and meditation). I also loved touring the temple and learning about the artifacts through the links provided - a great touch. The caretaker also went beyond to make sure I had a ride to the train station upon my departure. The gift he provided was a very nice touch that I appreciated on my long journey home. It was a very peaceful and unique experience that I recommend to anyone passing through this area.

South AfricaNothing really negative to say. Their website sets out very nicely what to expect and there were no surprises. Just a very charming spot nestled in a forest. If you’re tall (over 6 foot), be prepared to bump your head a few times. 😀
Very friendly and welcoming staff. A real treat to be able to do activities at the temple with the resident monk. Also a very short commute from the Taiji station. Heaters / air cons were provided, comfortable futons, large area of the temple with a few rooms including a dining room and of course the old temple and gardens are very charming. Also great value for money.

NetherlandsA (rental) car is almost a must to reach the temple
An absolutely amazing place to stay. The head moni is a marvelous host. It's worth joining some of the temple experiences as well to hear his great explanations of temple life and the building history. The guesthouse itself is very spacious, and has a lot of modern comforts as well despite the traditional simple looks. There's a big kitchen as well to make your own meals. We unfortunately could only stay for one day, but I'd really recommend staying several days if you can to really explore the area and soak up a bit of the tranquility of the place.

ThailandIt’s quite far from the onsen town.
It’s quiet and relaxing. It makes you feel relax and peaceful. I had a chance to join the morning Buddhist meditation with the monks. It was a good experience and they’re very nice to explain to me about Zazen in English. It helps you to contemplate and cleanse your mind with all the hustle and bustle of the world.

A very unique and highly recommended experience if you wish to spend some time in the Japanese countryside, surrounded by beautiful nature. The stay at the temple hotel for me was also a one of a kind spiritual and cultural experience. Multiple beautiful surrounding towns are easily reachable by bike. Access is much easier if you have your own vehicle but not impossible with public transport. The nearest station is Taiji station and there is a bus running to the Temple hotel. Make sure to make note of the time tables in advance or arrange a taxi which takes around 6-7 minutes.

AustraliaThere is nothing that we would change
Everything about this accomodation was beyond my expectations. We arrived to a beautiful traditional room, guided to a private room for a wonderful evening vegetarian meal, and then walked the town until close of the temple. The futons were soft and comfortable, the room showed us how easy it would be to live under these conditions. Slept through the prayer session at the temple (unfortunately) at 6am but the breakfast was another marvellous meal in our private dining room.

NetherlandsLocation is amazing but bit remote; need to drive for going out for dinner / breakfast (of bring yourself). No big deal, just to bear in mind. Near river, also at hotel, quite some mosquitos.
Great stay at very nice location. Super quiet, nice temple complex and perfect location for hikes and sightseeing around. Own car very much advised, easy parking at property. Room simple but clean, traditional bed in floor. Shared kitchen well equipped as well as the shared bathroom. We did not join any of specific rituals / events

ItalyDespite offering experiences like meditation, the breakfast is just monk-style porridge. The nearest restaurants/bars are a 10-minute drive away. It didn’t make a difference to us, but the option of having breakfast included could be a factor in choosing. There is a shared kitchen available with tables. It's clean and equipped with all the necessary tools.
The location is beautiful, special. Surrounded by greenery, Japanese style. The room we had was the largest, consisting of a hall, foyer, living room, and bedroom. The bathroom was external but private, with a sink area, two types of toilets (oriental and Japanese style), and a shower (without a window). The bedroom overlooks the inner zen garden, very charming. There is air conditioning.

United StatesOur experience at the Temple Hotel was truly delightful. The peaceful and serene atmosphere made our stay so rejuvenating. The rooms were not only large and tidy, but the bed was also very comfortable. Exploring the beautiful surroundings and connecting with nature was a highlight for us. Participating in the morning prayer was a memorable experience. The staff was incredibly accommodating, arranging a taxi for us and providing valuable insights about the temple and its way of life. Although we only stayed for one night, we wished we could have extended our visit to explore more of the area. We are looking forward to returning to the Temple Hotel in the future.
