The best place to stay in Nikko, central to the magnificent bridge and temple grounds and truly stunning scenery with the mountain backdrop. Hotel staff really made us feel welcome with tasty refreshments and we could store our luggage before the check-in which was great as we arrived early. The same when we checked out. Room was clean and had everything we needed and it was quiet and calm atmosphere in the building. A nice little gift shop in the lobby had a very good selection of things to buy from souvenirs to practicalities and sweets. The onsen was exceptional and loved the experience after a full day of sightseeing and walking, this trip will stay with us for a long time! Thank you Nikko Senhime Monogatari! Would love to visit again!

If I could give 11 points, I definitely would! Best hotel of my life, by far. Should be a 5 star! The "room" is actually a super suite, in perfect Japanese style, big as an apartment, with a majestic view on the beautiful valley. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful, ready at every moment of the stay. The onsen is one of the best we've been, including the little annex garden outside. And the dinner! A multiple courses tasting of local cuisine, exceptional both in taste and in presentation, in a separate private room, with personal waiter. Same for the breakfast. If I would ever come back to Japan, the travel from Tokyo to Nikko would be worth only to come back to this hotel.

    Nothing!!!

Staff were impeccable. Good location. Ibsen was amazing.

Worst beds I have ever slept on including my military mattresses. Limited food options.

    Nice room and nice onsen.

The place is a bit more formal than what we like for our family vacations. They did not accommodate requests to avoid certain foods because it was not due to allergies.

Nice big room. Shuttle bus for the train station.

Quite big object and lacks ambience. Food totally unsuitable for vegetarians and very monotone. As a vegetarian option raw fish is served :). It is an good option for people who like this kind of traditional japanese food: lot of meat and raw fish. We were there for 3 nights and decided to eat outside after few meals although we paid for food.

The lobby is beautiful and their check in style is an amazing hospitality. Great location and wonderful food.

Some parts of room need updating like room key , towels and bathroom sinks.

Friendly staff with shuttle services to Nikko station for both Tobu and JR. A 10- minute ride to the hotel. Onsen has both indoors and outdoors. 5 minutes walk to bus stops for sightseeing and to the underground pass to Toshogu temple. We couldn't make it due to stairs and a lot of walking afterwards with elderly people. We booked 2 rooms with private bathrooms overseeing the river. One has two single beds, and a Japanese futon for 2 people. The other one has two single beds with a private Onsen. We also booked for breakfast and dinner at the hotel for convenience. Both were Japanese kaiseki meals.

Great location, clean and comfortable with incredibly friendly staff. The onsen baths were lovely and the meals were fantastic - beautifully presented and served by wonderful staff.

Although amazing, the meals were very large. For a one night stay, this would be fine but we stayed 3 nights and it became a little overwhelming. That said, on the final day, we asked to have just fruit and yoghurt for breakfast and the team at the hotel provided this for us with no hesitation.

The service was incredible. The room was big in Japanese standards.

As others have have mentioned. We were unable to eat at this location, because we weren’t aware that we would have had to have set it up in advance. We were willing to pay, but they would not let us. And for dinner, there are extremely few options to eat in this town very very few that was the only disappointment

Wonderful traditional hotel. Great location, and the staff makes you feel special. I highly recommend staying here. The onsen is lovely and our family of 5 (older teens) had a great time. The check- in time was kinda of late and not flexible. The coffee is terrible- but these are small things. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Our room at the back of the hotel was small and very dated. The rooms at the front with a view of the mountains looked amazing - our experience would be very different in those rooms, which I’d have expected for the price we paid.

Central location in Nikko which made visiting key sites much easier. The room was spacious with fast WiFi and modern, updated amenities. Staff could not do enough for you--terrific service throughout our stay. Everything in the hotel worked perfectly. It's a high-end hotel, but not an elite luxury stay. It's clean and very well run. It's a good value.

We expected it to be more of a boutique experience than a relatively large hotel. That said, it is in a convenient location, exceptionally well-run with excellent attentive staff.

Maybe the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. Loved the onsen and the piano bar. The room had a great view and was very spacious.

I think there could be more soft lighting in the room. The overhead lights were quite harsh. It would also be nice for guests to be able to add dinner or breakfast even if they are not staying in the luxury rooms.

It was over the top in quality of facilities, staff and spaciousness of the room. The public hot tub was hot and beautiful. They offer a green tea and sweat when you arrive, and a coffee later, at your leisure. The room was 10 mat size, with an extension side room. And an unbelievable, gorgeous view of the forests next to the Temple grounds. It’s 10 minutes from the Temple grounds. So convenient!!

    Nothing.

Very convenient location which is near to shinkyo bridge, shrines and temples. All the staff are very friendly and approachable, in particular Mr Kato san who communicates well and is very attentive to our needs during meal time. The room is very clean and spacious. We enjoyed the private onsen very much, and of course, delicious ryokan dinner and breakfast in the private dining room. Would love to stay in this hotel if visit Nikko again.
