Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesWe loved everything! But here are suggestions: Maybe the lounge could have longer hours? We have bigger feet so the womens geta were too small for us (we needed mens). Maybe a few more towels. Reading lamps at the head of the beds. The breakfast were a little exotic for us but we appreciated that and it was what we would expect from an inn in Japan. We felt badly about wasting any food but it was good for us to be presented with choices so this is not really a complaint, just a comment.
Also loved the minimalist furnishings, the smell of Hinoki (?), lovely design and re-use of the building materials, well thought out privacy screening at the windows and the little gardens, the geta and yukata. We had a large family group and rooms in 4 buildings so each room was quite different. We enjoyed exploring each unique building and appreciated the interior design of each. It also gave us some welcome separation.

NetherlandsMy mom is bit old and had trouble walking up and down the stairs. The blanket was too thick for the weather.
Breakfast was amazing. The area where we eat is surrounded by beautiful japanese garden. The food is really decent. The staff are very kind. The village is so beautiful and quiet. You can relax really well. Also some tourist attractions are around the hotel by walk. Little sanpo around the hotels are so valuable.

SingaporeThe old town is a bit quiet with few people around sometimes
It is in a quaint old town and we are given the entire unit which consists of 2 levels. It is very spacious and elegantly done up. It has a beautiful Japanese Garden too!

United StatesI wanted to drink more local Japanese drinks in their bar - more than the orange juice which was nice though . I didn’t like the cheap rug on the tatami In the room. I wanted more local drinks in the room.
Clean, interesting, nice . Great breakfasts- the fish was amazing and was the best breakfast fish I’ve had in a long time. Loved the bathroom/ shower / bathtub and beds .. nice dinner yakitori place nearby (by the red brick building). The girl working the check in was super nice. They help you park and take your luggage to the room.

AustriaCutest place ever! Old town houses refurbished with great attention to detail. The hotel is not one single building, but rooms/apartements are scatterend around the old part of the town - all within walking distance. There is a lounge with a generous garden to sit, a breakfast venue, an a restaurant nesr the castle.

We appreciated the concept of a hotel chain repurposing historical buildings that may otherwise fall into disrepair because of decreasing populations in rural towns. It seems to have revitalised a lovely town. The units with own private gardens were really special. Unfortunately due to low doorways and stairwell structure in keeping with historical architecture my tall husband kept banging his head. The Club Lounge garden was a sanctuary after a day of walking.

United KingdomEverything was great.
Beautiful room in a converted merchant's house in Ozu. The upstairs sitting area is a lovely place to relax, as is the spacious bath on the ground floor. The decentralised hotel concept with properties spread across the town is unique and enjoyable. There are complimentary drinks and snacks available in the lounge, the breakfast is great and the staff provide an excellent service.

FranceCould not stop the street light from coming in through the shoji (no blinds).
Loved the fact that the rooms are all in different houses throughout the town with the restaurant in a separate house. Each house is unique with different distinguishing features. Bathrooms were amazing with giant wooden tubs and nice toiletries. Food was fantastic - Japanese with French influences. I almost never give 10 but this place really deserved it.

AustraliaThe rooms are old, and can be noisy should you have a windy night's stay. I did struggle to get to sleep over the racket on my first night. That proved to be bad luck though, as the next was far better.
This is a spetacularly beautiful and unique location to stay in. The room(s) are clean, spacious and stuffed with ameneties, and local art, products and goods. The staff were all very helpful and overcame the language barrier easily. I also received a free room upgrade upon arrival, as they had one available - always a great sign! My booking came with Half-Board. The breakfasts were good, standard Japanese breakfasts. But the dinners deliver a significant portion of this stay's value, so accept it. The french-Japanese fusion cuisine was delicious and beautiful, and will take time to accept leaving behind!

United StatesThe included meals were good but I kind of wish it is Japanese style cuisine that is offered to enjoy inside our room like other Ryokan in Japan. Having dinner near the Ozu castle sounds amazing but in reality I can’t really see the castle from my table :/ The wooden bathtub has black streak at some places (I am not sure if it’s mold) so I didn’t use the bathtub.
I love the experience of living in these old machiya. Appreciate the check out time of 12pm to be able to enjoy the room for longer. The staffs are super friendly and helpful.

United StatesBreakfast was great and the staff were very accommodating to the dietary needs of the family members. The room/house that we stayed in was located really close to the stores and the breakfast location. It was also only 10-15 minutes walk from the castle and the place you can pay for dinner.
