Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanIt’s a nicely done rental house. One floor, tatami bedroom and living room. The shower was suuuper good (push the child lock button on the shower lever to move it more to increase the heat further). It is adjacent to the owner’s cafe, so you can grab a nice coffee (milk or soy milk) easily in the morning (there’s powder coffee in the kitchen, too), and it is right across the road from the Haisha art house. Fairly close to a pizza/pasta restaurant that served surprisingly nice dishes (I had wild boar sausages with a watermelon soup as a starter), which is also the only no-reservation required place open in the evenings (there are two other restaurants open). The air in the place is really fresh and nice, because everything is basically new, and they have a separate air cleaner, dehumidifier and two air conditioning units… so it’s really comfortable even at the height of the heat and humidity outside. The bedding is a thick foam futon mattress with another more traditional futon mattress that you can optionally put on top of that (plus the rest. )I was comfortable. After check-in, you are free to come and go anytime, and there are some night time art sights. Take great care about the ferry times if island hopping. Some ferries permit you to take your bicycle (go electric… hills), and that will make things a lot easier. There are buses. There are very few taxis on Naoshima, and only a single taxi on Teshima that is unlikely to be unbooked.

United Kingdomnothing.
The location was perfect, such a gorgeous part of the island. Really close to a lot of the art attractions and a fab beach at Gotanji. The accommodation provided power assist bikes which were excellent and essential for getting around at your own pace. The apartment was perfect in size and in facilities. The host gave us recommendations for places to eat which were so good.

JapanJohnny was a very helpful host and speaks very good English. His place is convenient, clean and comfortable. A really good size for two people. Just a few minutes walk from the centre of Honmura and close to the bus stop for getting around the island. Also has space for a couple of bikes.

New ZealandHaving more blankets available would have been good. No fault of this provider but the cafes and restaurants only seem to cater for day tourists. Start shutting down from 5pm. We went looking for dinner at 6pm and while over 12 restaurants the only 2 who had been open closed as out of food. So bri g your own or arrive early and load up from 7/11.
Facilities good. Great bath.

United StatesI was a little disappointed that we had to pay an extra $100 when adding a third person after booking. It seemed like a lot but I understand that pricing for lodging is different in Japan.
We liked the location but you do need to be aware of the ferry schedule if you plan to arrive at the Honmura Port. The house is conveniently located near the Art House Project, cafes and restaurants. We highly recommend Luke's Pizza & Grill which is an easy walk from the house. Our stay was comfortable with plenty of space for three people (2 on futon, 1 on the pullout sofa). The bathroom was spacious with shelves to store toiletries and a good-sized shower area with bath. Kitchen was well-stocked and came with instant coffee and tea which came in handy as the cafe next door wasn't open. Not sure if there were bikes we could have used, but that would have been really nice. We ended up renting e-bikes from the other side of the island. Communication with OneRest was easy and we always received a quick reply.

Centrally located in the art-house area. Comfortable and spacious for a solo traveller or couple. Last time I was in Naoshima I stayed at a guest house, sharing common areas with other travellers. I much preferred this option of having a whole property to myself. There is a small take-out cafe in front of the property but it operates only for a few hours in the middle of the day, so it wasn't a noise problem. You do occasionally hear the commerical fridge. It is close to a road intersection, so when the buses start moving it gets reasonably noisy (after 8am & finishing around 5-6pm). Not a big problem - but just advising. If you want to buy groceries - the local co-op closes around 4pm, and the 7-eleven, which is not far from the main ferry terminal, (& has longer hours) is a 30 minute walk away. So buy your supplies when you arrive from the ferry.

We absolutely loved the one rest private apartment. It was so spacious and had all the facilities we could possibly need. The tatami traditional style bedroom was lovely. The whole place was thoughtfully decorated and felt cosy. The owner was very helpful and kind. I thought honmura was a great location to be in perfect to bike ride or bus to other locations as well as having the beautiful art house projects in the same area. There was heating and cooling, all the amenities we could need. I did not ask about laundry but I’m sure Kisake would have helped with this as well.

This is wonderful place if you do not expect hotel comfort but rather local, rural accomodation. It is clean and nice, secures privacy and gives the flavour of local Japanese house. BAthroom and kitchen offer all what is needed. And it is close to all galleries and interesting places in Naoshima. The staff is very helpful and provides all local information and assistance. Overall it was very positive experience.
