Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RomaniaExtremely well situated, fantastic view of the bay. Very kind host, cafe open late (midnight). Traditional house, renovated. If you're allergic to hearing the other guests, avoid. If you like soft and whispering ambient, go for it.

AustraliaAn amazing location in an amazing city. My favourite place that I visited in my 3 weeks in Japan. Onomichi is a must. Very beautiful, interesting, authentic place. The Hotel has a bar and some light meals at times. Great view. Traditional large clean rooms. A bit more minimal but I liked that.

United KingdomIt's a big hill up there which is worth the view, but no dinner options up the hill, so stock up at 7-11 before you head up the hill and treat yourself to a bento box or some noodles on the lovely terrace (although remember the bug spray)!
Beautiful views and a traditional setting. Very comfy but will depend on who is in the rooms around you. Nice cafe and good breakfast options.

GermanyMake sure to bring a small towel with you, as you will otherwise have to rent it. The room in summer gets really hot and it takes a while for the AC to cool it down.
Absolutely loved the location of this Hotel, situated at the top of a mountain overlooking all of Onomichi. It was absolutely as stunning being able to see the sun go down over the city from your room and see the sunrise the next day.

New ZealandUnfortunately we had noisy neighbours, not the guesthouses' fault, and we also had to get up to turn off the hallway light at night as it was keeping us awake. The toilet didn't have a bidet, so we used the public toilet opposite the guesthouse which was just as clean, this is Japan after all!
Amazing location, awesome sunset and great views. Lovely breakfast, good coffee and thick toast with jam. We would stay again if in the area.

SloveniaThe house is old and made in Japanese style - as you can imagine the paper door aren’t sound proof, some guests weren’t very mindful about it and made quite a bit noise in the evening. I suggest you bring ear plugs just in case.
The property is located in a very cute and historic part of the town, it has a very authentic feel. The staff is very very friendly, there is also a bar, a kitchen, showers and a terrace. We were quite sad we only got to spend one night there, wish we could enjoy Onomichi and the Guest house a few days more!

Cant recommend it enough if you want to experience sleeping in a beautiful old Japanese house on a hill! The staff is very sweet, take their time to carefully explain everything. The stay also has a small cafe, where you can even eat your own outside food or just hang around. Room + the view from this stay is amazing! :)

United StatesSuch a special place to get a true feel for a Japanese guest house. This place is a part of the revitalization of Onomichi structures and they did such a lovely job. If you have a lot of luggage you should leave it at another hotel and pay for them to store it as we did. We packed a smaller bag and hiked up the hill. You can also take the trolley to the top and walk down but it’s still hard to haul luggage. Truly a treat to have gotten to stay here.

New ZealandMild inconvenience of the shower being in a different building that you have to walk downstairs to get to, but this is more than reflected in the very reasonable price of this accommodation.
Staying here was a definite highlight of our trip! The guesthouse is absolutely beautiful - full of history and in the most incredible location right underneath Senko-ji temple. I would recommend staying AT LEAST 2 nights - 1 night is definitely not enough to soak it all in. Sitting in the cafe overlooking the city was an absolute dream. The cafe is open to the public but is also a space where guests can eat and drink their own food which felt really nice and cosy. The walls of the rooms are basically decorative so you really can hear all the other guests staying, but I was pleasantly surprised at how considerate all the other guests were of noise and everyone was so quiet after 9pm. I could not recommend this guesthouse highly enough!
