Perfect place to stay while cycling the Shimanami Kaido. Our room had everything we needed and more - lots of really thoughtful additions to the room and helpful recommendations about where to go in Setoda and the history of the town. Shared bathroom was clean and everything worked well. Leo was a really great host, welcoming and helped us with our luggage forwarding.

The toilet was a bit small, but it's just the way old Japanese houses are built, so it simply was part of the experience.

We booked two rooms for our family of four. We were pleasantly surprised how spacious they were, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. The host was incredibly kind, he suggested the best places to eat and buy locally produced lemon pastries, and when we were leaving, he brought his cat, Tiger, and waved goodbye to us. As we were on a three-day bike trip and only had our small backpacks with us, we loved the fact that everything was provided: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, toothpaste, mouth wash, etc. In each room there were even a couple of bottles of water and everything for making tea and coffee. In the common spaces there was a microwave, guidebooks, manga books, and a wall full of Toso Maps of the Shimanami Kaido trail. We will definitely book Bed&Cafe Onzo again next time we bike the Shimanami Kaido!

Very clean and spacious enough for 1 night during the Shimanami Kaido. Host was very friendly and also let us leave our bags while we enjoyed the town. Would stay again.

Toiletroom is very small. Blanket was too thick for the Japanese summer.

Hardworking and nice owner. A mix between living in somebody's home, a hostel and the privacy of a private room. Good location in the heart of Setoda, everything can be reached in foot.

The accomodations is in the heart of the active area of the island. We are a family of 5 and we rented all three rooms and they were very comfortable and cool. The owner is super nice and was always available and has a cafe downstairs with an adorable cat. The location was awesome and we ate at some very good local small restaurants and enjoyed our hikes and biking around the island. If you come and just rent a room a friendly reminder that the bathrooms are shared with other guests.

The steps to the room are steep but as long as you're fine with that, no issues!

This island was amazing - I loved the hosts map of lemon items across the island! We tried so many of his recommendations for food and drink - all delicious! Perfect stop on the Shimanami kaido, lovely room with seating area! The host was warm and helpful! Great stay!

Just the construction noise at 6am but it’s not the property’s fault!

Everything ! It was comfortable, Onzo was so so nice and gave us amazing food recommendations. Setoda is the perfect stay doing Shimanami Kaido. We hope to be back!

This is 100% on us, but we were in Setoda on a Wednesday, so everything was closed 😔.

Nice and cosy place, definitely more of a hostel vibe than hotel, even if the rooms are private.

It’s a minor inconvenience but the property didn’t have a bath which would have been nice after biking 40km. There is a bathhouse nearby though that you can go to

It’s a nice property halfway on the Shimanami Kaido. The owner is very nice and speaks good English! He provided a list of every restaurant around and when they’re open and a lot more useful information!

The location was perfect. The room I stayed in was wonderfully clean, had guides for what to do in the area, and was nicely furnished. It was also quiet, I didn't hear any noise from adjacent rooms during my stay. Would highly recommend!

Near Kousanji and Hill of Hope, it is in a good location. Images represent the hostel well and maybe a small undersell. Instead of many bunkbeds per room, my room only had one bunkbed and sofas. No mentionable downsides.

We we’re welcomed by the friendly owner and his beautiful cat. He provided lots of information on nearby restaurants, shops, and temples (just around the corner). Everything was impeccably clean. Lots of toiletries were provided, so you do not need to bring your own. It was the perfect peaceful stay halfway the Shimanami Kaido. Would love to return here some day.

Bed&Cafe Onzo is a charming inn at the heart of Setoda town. It is run by Leo, who converted the old house into the accomodation it is today. What really impressed us was how clean the bedrooms and washrooms were, especially compared to other guesthouses. Above all else, Leo was a kind and thoughtful host. We arrived drenched in the rain and he immediately helped us to warm up, as well as support his throughout our stay. Additionally, the fact the place used to be an old Japanese house made it a unique experience, almost like you were living in a local's house.

Loved it! It felt special to be in the heart of the area, it was the perfect respite on our biking trip and the owner was lovely. It’s at the bottom of a temple.

Amazing value for money for people cycling the shinami kaido. Located right in the centre of Setoda with restaurants and shops located just a short walk away, along with the port (which you can use to get directly back to Onomichi) making it the perfect place to stop off halfway through the journey. The owner was very kind and gave us lots of useful information about the various islands as well as good places to eat.

I did an overnight stop during Shimanami Kaido and enjoyed my stay with Onzo. Amenities were provided (toothbrush, floss, hairbrush, shampoo,…) which is nice so you don’t have to carry on the bike. The bed was comfy and everything was clean. Very good value for money

We had a bit of trouble finding places to eat but that was no fault of the accommodation, For some reason the town was so quiet.

Our host was very helpful and arranged our bags to be transferred the next day as we were on bicycles. The town was extremely quiet but we loved it and it is very pretty. Our accommodation was very simple and basic but everything we needed, and was extremely affordable.

Wonderful place to stay as a midway stop along the shimanami bike ride or if visiting Setoda for any reason! Room had lots of space, very clean bathroom facilities, and the owner was very kind! I even enjoyed a beer with him and his cat!

The owner Leo was very lovely and welcoming. He checked me in nice and easy, showed me around the hostel and then presented me with some maps that gave information on local restaurants and what time they close etc. I don’t speak Japanese and his English was really good, which was lovely. He also answered any questions that I had about how to say things in Japanese! His cat is lovely but seems to be quite shy. To be honest, this is what I’ve experienced with most Japanese cats 😉.
