Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

TaiwanThe roof beam is a bit low and I bumped into it several times. Maybe it could be covered with some anti-collision cotton.
The house is a 150-year-old building that has been renovated by the host into a charming and comfortable inn. It features spacious, Japanese-style rooms and garden area. And has a western-style room on second floor, the hosts are very kind and nice. The BBQ experience is excellent—you can either bring your own ingredients or enjoy the host’s carefully prepared selections. It’s definitely worth trying! The view and surrounding environment are beautiful. Highly recommended if you’re planning to visit Takachiho. The drive takes about 50 minutes,

SingaporeBecause it retains much of its original architecture, it can get a little cold (we visited in winter), but this was mitigated by the heaters made available to us.
Excellent hospitality from the hosts and staff in a beautifully restored property. They thought of everything, from changing the towels daily, topping up the kerosene heaters to drawing a piping hot bath daily heated by a charcoal fire. The accommodation had everything we needed. Sufficient bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen and endless corridors for our tot to trot around. They also prepared a bbq at an additional fee and it felt like there was a karaoke system ready wherever we went about the property. Last but not least, it is set in a beautiful valley with mountain views all round.

SingaporeThe location of the carpark wasn't very clear from the main road but if you turn correctly, you will see it straight away. It is a short walk away from the actual residence and the pathway was mostly gravel rocks. If you are carrying luggage, I recommend that you check in first and slowly bring your things across the path to the residence. I had a quite a heavy luggage so carrying it across without damaging my luggage was quite a challenge.
Location is off the main road but if you follow the GPS, it should lead you there. Look out for the residence signs. Recommend that you reach out to the owner early if you wish to dine at the hotel. There is a lovely bbq (both indoors during winter and outdoor in summer - additional charge). It was a lovely experience. This is a refurbished residence (which has all the modern amenities). There is a huge project screen where you can catch your shows. It has two levels with a lovely tea area which you can sit and view Mt Aso. The onsite kitchen is incredible. It has everything! It is a professional kitchen with even a sous vide machine. The burners are also industrial types but I did not get a chance to use them. Post dinner, we spent the majority of the time at the living area downstairs. There was a kerosene heater which was very helpful. It was quite an experience for us as we are not accustomed to the cold. Waking up the next morning with the cold temperature and cold flooring was something which we were not used to. The experience was definitely more interesting compared to any regular hotels. Would definitely recommend a stay here. The couple running the place was so kind and generous.

NetherlandsNothing, it was perfect
This is hands down one of the best places I have ever stayed. The hosts are incredibly welcoming, and very enthusiastic about the home they’ve been restoring. we were greeted with a tour of the buildings and some history of the home. The rooms are absolutely stunning, very homely and comfortable. All but one rooms are futon beds on tatami mats. I had a great night sleep. The rooms at the back also have amazing views of Mt Aso. The hosts are clearly audiophiles because there is excellent speaker systems in every room and they’re happy to share them with you and allow you to use them. There is a karaoke system that was also available for use (which we did) and that was incredible fun. We also opted for the bbq option which was incredible. Some of the best food I’ve had since arriving in Japan. We tried to extend our stay but unfortunately they had other guests coming the next night. But I will definitely be coming back. What an incredible place

we do really like the atmosphere of the old house. the owner explained and told us so much about the house and the history of it. the dinner 🍽 was nice and enough for all of us. the view from the rooms is amazing, we really had a good time in Minami Aso. everything is clean. the speakers are nice, we had karaoke time. we had kakikori also. we parked 2 cars, we stopped our cars in front of the main entrance because it was raining on the day, owner asked us to park the car closer and easy to take out our luggages. our stay was perfect, we will stay there again next time, 1 night is not enough.

IsraelOur stay at this incredible Japanese house was nothing short of a dream. This beautifully renovated traditional home, built by the owner's ancestors probably 150 years ago and renovated thoughtfully and lovingly by the owner recently. It offers lovely gardens and breathtaking views of Mount Aso and is meticulously maintained to the highest standards. Each room exudes the charm and character of a traditional Japanese palace, while also providing all modern amenities. The onsen is an indulgent treat, and the professional kitchen, sound and home cinema systems, barbecue house, and karaoke house added to the exceptional experience. We opted for the barbecue on two of our three nights, and the food was world-class, prepared with love and care by the owner, his wife, and the property manager. We felt like we were in a dream and wished we could have stayed much longer. Highly recommended for an unforgettable stay! Yoshio, Sumie, and Yuji you are the best!

SingaporeNothing! The space is huge and could accommodate a lot more people but they only have 1 bath. As a couple we enjoyed the space and diff tea rooms overlooking the mountains.
Thanks to the owner, wife and staff for their legendary Japanese omotenashi. They welcomed us so warmly into their beautiful home (which the owner restored himself over 5 years) and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the rooms overlooking Aso-san. They even prepared a hot bath for us ready to use when we checked in. They have a full kitchen in the home, kitchenette on the 2nd floor and toilets on both floors. They prepared a wonderful bbq for us on our second night and we could use their karaoke system in the same room. The owner explained that the bbq was prepared with hot lava stones fr mt Fuji that kept the heat going throughout our delicious dinner! Also so good to get to know him better over the meal, while we had to use google translate the whole time he was keen to share about his experience, understand our needs, and even share a story or 2 about the band he is in with his good friends from work. What an enjoyable stay and we wish our hosts the very best.
