We booked a triple sharing room and the owner upgraded us to 2 rooms and it was a pleasant surprise. Communication was challenging but we were able to get by with Google translate. The rate came with breakfast and it was home cooked and a great start to our day. The place has a great view of Mt Iwate from the second floor balcony, and it's a great place to relax and chill.

Room is basic and hairdryer at the bath can be stronger. However, this is a Pension so still within expectation.

The hosts were very helpful and made me familiar with the area suggesting a pleasant cafe/restaurant for dinner. The breakfast was excellent and catered for a vegetarian

Old world charm in a traditional Japanese pension.

The Pensione is rather run down and antiquated. Host are very accomodating but seem to struggle even when there was only two groups staying. The rooms are traditional tatami rooms but need a refresh. I house onsen was pretty stinky so we didn’t use.

The host and hostess were very friendly, and made me feel welcome despite me not speaking Japanese. The food was cooked with obvious care, and the room was spotless. The Onsen was great for relaxing. The location was close to Mount Iwate skiing and hiking areas.

I can't think of anything, really.

Amazing hosts, sweet, attentive and patient, doing everything they could to communicate with us (who couldn’t speak enough Japanese) and help us make the most of our short stay. Rooms are traditional and cosy, a truly wonderful place to stay.

Location superb near Shimokura Ski Resort and Appi Kogen. Was quiet, comfortable, hosts were very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. There was a drying room for our snow clothes that were wet. The accommodation was clean and warm.

Breakfast was on the cold side each morning, which we tried to attend earlier to alleviate this but didn't. We could have enjoyed the coffee and toast whilst waiting for the main course of breakfast, which was generally bacon and eggs in some fashion, this would have then been warm, but I do commend the hosts of preparing so many breakfasts to be ready at a single time, it was never late.

It’s very eclectic and interesting on the inside, with many things to look at. The small onsen that you can book a time slot into is very mineral rich and perfect for after a day on the snow slopes. The staff were super friendly and helpful.

The property location is really far from any convenience store but there are a couple restaurants around but with a small child going out after checking in wasn’t really an option

We stayed here for one night on the 1st of Jan 2024.Absolutely loved this cosy hotel run by the sweetest old couple. The best part about it is that it’s decorated with souvenirs from all over the world.

Breakfast was excellent and very tasty and also very punctual. The location was very convenient to the Aspite Line and stunning scenery and walks. The local area was lovely and our host was able to recommend an excellent local restaurant. Our hosts could not have been kinder or more helpful!!

The water pressure in the shower is really the only issue, ie the shower struggles to work

My wife & I stayed here for 2 nights on our Indy Pass ski trip. The lodge is immaculately clean and cozy. We loved our tatami rooms with private bathroom / shower. The breakfast each day was delicious and filling. The common area had self serve beverages with some snacks available all day. They have both a men’s and women’s Onsen bath that can be reserved by the 1/2 hour time slot and since we were the only ones staying there we had them to ourselves. It’s a quick 10 minute drive to Simokura ski area. There are several restaurants, Akatsuki brewery and several other onsens within walking distance. The best part was the hospitality and kindness of the host couple. Despite the struggles with language, It was fun chatting with them about skiing and their lives (with the help of Google translate). We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Honestly, nothing really 😁
