Perhaps the only place to stay right on the lakeshore. Staff was super friendly, room was clean. Shared bathroom was fine.

As the property is quite old, the floors are creaky and the sound-proofing is not so good. . You can hear people walking along the hallway. It was just my family staying in the property so it wasn't so noisy. But I can imagine it could get noisier when it's fully booked in peak seasons.

We visited in November, which seems to be the off-season for this town. The whole place (apart from the bathroom) seemed pretty run down and not squeaky clean... Felt a bit underwhelming considering the price we paid.

We didn't investigate the neighborhood, so if you think you might need other activities other than swimming and relaxing you will want to look into that more as I'm not sure what else there is to do. Note this is not a sandy beach - the waterfront is more retaining wall areas and natural rocks to prevent erosion but there are lots of place to sit and many entrances to the water, so not a negative per se, just adjust your expectations.

The front porch that gives onto the lake is amazing. The staff is SUPER welcoming. They don't speak English, but they have lots of English instructions pre-prepared and are very willing to use translation aps to figure everything else out. This is a true simple Japanese inn experience with tatami mats, futon mattress for sleep, and shared bathrooms so don't go expecting western-style arrangements. But if you want to be able to walk out the door and take 10 steps to swim in a gorgeous lake and to eat your meals on the porch with that lake for accompaniment, you will love it. Definitely pre-order dinner. We did not and the hotel was super gracious about pulling some food together for us, but if we had pre-ordered we would have had much more options. The hotels is a 5-7 min walk from the train station.

Few options for eating out nearby, as summer season over. Convenience store 15-20 minutes walk

Funky laid back feel. Superb peaceful location with excellent views. Easy walk from JR station. Good simple food available in the evening. Quiet now at this time of year.

breakfast is not a breakfast at all: you cannot name a take away sandwich and a packaged juice per guest as breakfast. boring evenings at Omi-Maiko beach. every store and restaurant closes at 6 pm.

The images showing at booking.com not showing the current situation of the B&B. We’ve stayed from 21.August - 24.August. Lots of gazebos, plastic tables & chairs. We where not expecting people using barbecues outside & in front of the B&B. But maybe we haven’t informed us well enough how the summer works in Japan. The inside of the lunch & dining area looked a bit run down & not as shown as the images on booking.com website. Yes we do understand it has been in the busy summer season & potentially it is quieter any other time of the year. We could also hear the music from the outside in our room. Overall the shared bathroom & toilets where clean.

There aren't many restaurants operating on weekdays in this remote area.

Staff was amiable and very helpful. It was situated directly on the waterfront and there is a great waterfall just a short hike away.

We loved how accomodating and nice the staff were they were always making sure the space/ our room was tidy and neat and provided us with fresh linen, towels and robes daily. They cooked us meals and treated us like family! The location is beautiful right on the lake with amazing sunrises and sunsets and just a short 10 minuet walk to the station or a 15 minuet walk to 711. We honestly can’t fault anything about this property and can’t wait to stay again!

The house is beautiful and set close to Biwa Lake. I really enjoyed my night on traditional Tatami and Futon. The stuff is amazing! They are super friendly and we laughed a lot together as my new Nakama :) I definitely will come again!!!!!

Price of the accomodation was pricey for a shared bath place and only sandwiches and a drink for breakfast. Other places we stayed in were much better in terms of price and location and facilities.

The tatami under the futons were very hard which made the futon unpleasant to sleep on. Staff didn’t speak English and were overly attentive to the point where it felt uncomfortable to go downstairs to the communal kitchen area.
