Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaDidn't have luggage storage, but replied back suggesting to use train station lockers, which was helpful. The path to the property along the furnicular is very bumpy, better access is through the town and a.smoother road to pull luggage. Didn't have hooks for hanging towels in the shower, it would be more convenient if it did.
Very nice room, good location, very comfy beds, laundry facilities very convenient.

AustraliaIt was not easy to bring large luggages from parking lot to the property. Additionally I did not know that we were assigned to the studio upstairs. It was not easy to carry luggages up and down of the narrow staircases.
Cute little studio that could host quite a few people. It was small but it had everything you’ll need.

United StatesThe only thing I don't like is parking is tricky to find. You have to walk from public parking going to the location. It is little uphill, not a luggage and stroller friendly. Careful when walking at night it is dark and may step on small rocks. Our twins fell asleep in the car we have to carry them (uphill) and I almost fell.
What I like about staying at Hakone-GORA Base A is that it has everything we need. It has a small kitchen, laundry area and tatami area. Easy to make milk at night because the kitchen is just outside the bedroom. The only thing I don't like is that parking is tricky to find. You have to walk from public parking going to the location. TaiwanWe have the first floor room. The floor noise from upstairs is loud while walking. We knew the house is a redecorated old house. But it is not a big concern for choosing this accommodation.
Good location, quiet, nice and compact.

SingaporeIt’s up on a slope so I would recommend you travel light.
A unit on its own. Owner/ staff very responsive. Clean and well equipped with kitchen equipment. There is also a dining area that seats 4 person comfortably in case you prefer to cook your own meals.

The location is really near Gora Station. The place is charming and very calm. Exchanges with host were very easy and helpful. There are no keys only a code which works perfectly. Easy access to the railrope to climb to the summit.

AustraliaWe loved this accommodation, one of our favourites during our holiday. It was cosy and comfortable, with plenty of room and had everything we needed for a family of 4. Great location, close to first stop on the cable car, which made it easier with luggage.

SingaporeNIL.
Gora Base A was a very cozy place to stay, my friends and I really enjoyed our time there. We could tell a lot of care and thought was put into making the property as cozy and comfortable as possible. Coin Washer and dryers are available at a small cost. The heated tatami was a really good touch too.

AustraliaIt is a. very small space for 4 adult people with luggage, but this was not surprising. There was no tea or coffee provided in the kitchen supplies. We didn’t use the kitchen to cook food but we would have used tea bags or coffee if it was provided.
The location was a great base to explore Hakone. The vibe of the area is relaxed, quiet holiday style. The house is a nice mix of traditional and modern, with the option of sleeping in bunks or on tatami mats.

JapanIt was quite pricey for what it was but I think all accommodation in Gora is quite pricey overall. Was a bit boxey for the price but as I said had everything you need and it was an overnight stay. Have made a recommendation to supply tea and coffee as most places close early and open later. Absolutely no option to get in early.
We entered by a lock box. Instructions on how to get there and parking Instructions were all clear and easy to understand. The room was great . We were in unit 101A. Basic kitchen facilities, washer dryer etc. Very close to the station and places to eat. Walking distance to Open Air Museum. Overnight stay so it had everything you need. There are other accommodation options in this unit block ours may have been the smallest.

JapanNothing really.
What a lovely and efficient little apartment! It was really clean, and had everything we needed. Not a bad walk from the station (10 minutes), although Gora is hilly and you will get good cardio exercise! We really appreciated having the laundry facilities (as well as detergent)!

SingaporeTwo things suprised me - while not major, are disappointing. First, given the price point, I was most surprised to have to pay extra for the washing machine. I was paying for a full apartment/house, so why charge more for the facilities within it? First time I haver ever had to pay extra for the washing machine. Two nights later we stayed at a similiar type of place. It cost half as much, and it did not cost extra to use the washing machine. Second, I thought the check-in/out times were not the best. 3pm in, out by 10am, with no flexbility. Contrast this with the place we stayed the following night with a 2pm check-in and 11am check-out, which is much more common.
Classic Japanese house - spotlessly clean and comfortable. Referring to some previous reviews, the location was perfect. Yes, it was a slight walk up hill from the station, but you don't expect everything to be flat when going to the mountains, right? This was a great property, a short walk from the station.
