Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesVery easy to access from Kyoto Station. Across from a convenience store. Staff were efficient and friendly. Room was pleasant. Amenities are provided (comb, face cleanser, etc.) and there is coffee/tea service. The breakfast was also nice. A very no-frills hotel that was perfect for a very late arrival to Kyoto.

AlgeriaI had a great stay at this hotel during my time in Kyoto. The location is excellent—just a short walk from Kyoto Station, which made getting around the city super convenient. The staff were cheerful, helpful, and made check-in and daily interactions pleasant. My room was very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The price was quite reasonable for the quality and location. The only minor downside was a slightly odd smell in the corridors, but it wasn’t too bothersome. Overall, a solid choice for a stay in Kyoto!

United StatesI didn't know there would be an accommodation tax especially as I had paid through Booking.com. However it was only 200 yen.
Excellent location right next to Kyoto Station West Exit which has lines for Shinkansen linking to Tokyo, Fuji (Mishima), and Osaka. It also has metro lines to all tourist spots in Kyoto like Fushimi and Arashiyama which are reachable within in minutes. It also has express lines to Osaka and Nara. They also allow luggage storage that is safe and convenient. There is 24 hour front desk to answer questions but must check in before midnight. The room is super clean and comfortable and very large for Japan. It has all the amenities one needs and is very modern.

United KingdomRooms are small and a little old fashioned (but that's the trade off against price and location). I couldn't find a way to set the air con to drying/dehumidifying mode, though that might be an error on my part.
Comfortable bed and clean room. Very good location, hard to beat for the price. Friendly and helpful staff.

BulgariaExtremely incompetent staff. Most receptionists cannot say or understand a word in English. At present, I think this is unacceptable for an international hotel in one of the most prominent tourist cities in the country.
Great location just a few minutes from the central station. Stores next door and across the street, a mall at a 2 minutes walk. Free coffee and soft drinks in the lobby. Rooms are not big, but are comfortable, and among the few in Japan one can freely open their suitcase in.

United StatesTiny, inadequate fridge Monotonous breakfast Had to retrieve your own pajamas in lobby every day Room a bit smallish, but adequate A few minor complaints are it has a tiny, inadequate fridge - about half the size of a mini-fridge you see in other hotels. TV is rather small, and facing away from the bed. Breakfast is way too monotonous - boiled eggs, granola cereal, various bread rolls, salad, and yogurt. Next to no variation every day. If you were hoping for a Japanese style breakfast you are up the creek, though I was perfectly fine with it. The only other thing was they only have one size for pajamas, and they do room service every day, making the bed, exchanging towels, etc - so why do you have to go to the lobby every day and get your own pajamas? Other than that, I would gladly stay there again.
Excellent location Superb wi-fi speed Inexpensive breakfast Nice free coffee, tea and juice in lobby Attentive and responsive staff Location is just 1 minute on foot south of Kyoto Station and couldn't be better. Very good wi-fi speed. Next to a convenience store, as well as a Don Quijote across the street. Attentive and helpful staff. Inexpensive breakfast (500 yen) available. Rooms are clean, quiet, and modern. Laundromat on site.

CanadaI wish there had been a memo pad and pen prepared in the room. Sometimes I need to write things down since I’m using the cellphone to look things up. There is no safe box provided even though there’s daily cleaning. If you have trust issues, just take your valuables when you go out. Soundproofing isn’t super strong. Or my neighbor’s snoring was just that powerful.
Receptionists were very helpful! I was worried when my luggage didn’t arrive same day like I thought it would and they helped me check online to see when it would arrive. The rooms are cleaned daily; bed made, bathroom cleaned, towels changed, old hotel-provided pajamas taken away. Lot more tv channel options than other hotels I’ve been to. Enough space on the floor to open a 158cm suitcase. They also have luggage forwarding service.
