Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelThey use some detergents with strong smell (Smelled like Green tea?). We had to keep the window opened and AC on all time to let it go.
Very close to everything we wanted and to public transportation Tea cattle in the room and free tea bags. Combination of western bad and tatami floor

LuxembourgThere was an unpleasant smell in the room from the traditional Japanese carpet. You do get used to it after a while though.

GermanyThe air conditioning was a bit loud. I had to turn it off during the night. I felt a bit of an earthy smell.
Great and quiet location. Nice staff. I loved the Tatamis in the room. Everything is very clean. Beds are comfortable. The illumination in the room is very cozy. Next to the Nishiki Market and not so far away from the Nijō Castle.

United Arab EmiratesThe speed and signal strength of the WiFi can be improved. It was in the range of 5 to 15 MBit/s with fluctuations between 1 to 2 bars in terms of signal strength.
Great quiet location just 4-5 minutes walking distance from the closest metro station. Many great cafes, convenience stores, and restaurants within walking distance too. The washroom facilities were great, with very good water pressure in the shower.

FranceI had an excellent stay at this hotel. I loved the atmosphere: the place was spotlessly clean and perfectly quiet, which allowed me to truly relax. The staff were extremely friendly and always available to meet my needs. Everything was accessible on site, making the stay very convenient, and the hotel is located in a calm neighborhood, which I really appreciated. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, as well as a metro station, which makes getting around the city very easy. In addition, many activities are within a 10-minute walk, perfect for exploring the area without any hassle. The room was truly amazing—spacious and comfortable, with a modern, well-equipped bathroom. I highly recommend this hotel for a pleasant and worry-free stay.

AustraliaThis is a small boutique hotel and was the best place we stayed at in Japan - highly recommend booking here! The Standard Twin Room was huge by Japan standards, the tatami area with table + beanbags was great and gave us plenty of space to open two large suitcases. Bathroom was very modern and had a great layout with the shower, sink/mirror and toilet each located in a separate room. Amazing location on a very quiet street within easy walking distance to everything - 1 min to convenience store, 5 mins to subway station, 7 mins to Nishiki Market & a big shopping arcade (Sanjo Meiten-gai), 15 mins to the river & Pontocho Alley, 20 mins to Gion (geisha district). Staff were friendly and helpful, they organised luggage transfer to our next hotel and let us keep our backpacks behind the front desk for the day after we'd checked out. I'll definitely stay here again if I come back to Kyoto!

AustraliaWhat a fabulous little hotel this is! A hidden gem in Kyoto! So hidden we walked past it twice before we realised it was there! Incredibly quiet and the room was huge by Japan standards. Walking distance to public transport, heaps of restaurants and bars nearby. Washing machine in a laundry off the foyer was great, as were the free amenities. Spotlessly clean, lovely staff. Room was large with a tatami area for relaxing. As with most hotels in Japan the beds and pillows are harder than we are used to but not a problem. Bathroom was fabulous. Be aware this hotel does not offer breakfast but there are convenience stores close by. Definitely recommend this hotel.
