Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

HungaryThere was no daily cleaning by default. No shuttle to Kawaguchiko station after 10AM (our bus departed at 11.20). Some of the vending machines only accept cash. We didn't know in advance that breakfast is either at 7 AM or 8 AM and dinner 6PM or 7PM sharp. If we had known these options, we would have chosen a different place as not everyone wants to wake up at 6.30 or 7.30 AM on their holiday to eat. And because it is kaiseki and they start to prepare your food at your table, it's 7AM or 8AM sharp! It took a couple of rounds to check what part of the food contained meat.
The room was spacious, and overall clean. The location is beautiful, about 50 m from the lake. The onsen is nice, clean, and not too crowded. Great view of Mount Fuji from our room.

ItalyThe property iwas in a great location, right in front of a lake. However, the only downside was the receptionist (of Indian/Nepalese origin), who insisted we pay extra just because we stayed 10 minutes longer in the onsen after check-out. I find this absolutely unreasonable – it’s the first time I’ve ever experienced something like this in any hotel.

MexicoRoom is dated and dusty, pipes are noisy, curtains (or more like wooden window cover) won't completely shut. Overall room and facilities are dire need of renovation.

JapanIt was raining and no available umbrellas to borrow. We just needed to get our own umbrellas from the parking area. The price is also a bit steep. We booked it earlier and suddenly the price went down by half.
It was huge and the option for a Japanese style room is a big help for families staying with babies.

JapanThe check-in process at the automated machines was a little complicated, and I felt a bit rushed to finish it quickly.
The room and hotel was all absolutely fantastic, and the location was very convenient. A highlight was the Sento Which was very comfortable and the outdoor area of it was gorgeous.

India1. Staff Attitude; especially Mr Mallah! He would not connect me to Manager. And also told me that the hotel did not have a Website and Contact other than the front desk!! 2. Breakfast: offered is only Japanese! Not even coffee!!! We were 4 vegetarians, and dont enjoy local cuisine. Mr. Mallah and his colleagues flatly refused to offer even bread butter; although, it was made available to another group of tourists staying at same time as us!!! 3. Toilet Stinks!!!
Location. Station drop-off

PolandThe receptiin counter is a bit messy and staff is pilotem but knows how to say know- they refused me extra towel- when my got stuck in room and my friend had a key but was out. They also refused me a second adapter even for few hours as ours were lost. But they have a nice onsen - with outside option and serve a traditional breakfast which was a nice experience. As well as the traditional rooms which were spacious.

United StatesDidnt like the they asked 24 hours before if we wanted to have dinner. I felt like that should be sorted when booking. I didnt have wifi and was trying to navigate so it was a lot and we were unable to do the dinner experience. The also sent the email in japanese which is fine but google translate made it seem like dinner was included so the miscommunication was there. If its listed in the booking to include dinner or not that would have been easier.
The onsen looked exactly like the pictures. We were hoping for more facilities. They only had and one outdoor and one indoor onsen. For the price we were hoping for more amenities. The room itself was great, traditional Japanese styled room. The location was right on the lake which is great but it was a bit of a walk. Buses were available if you have a bus pass. Also it was great they were tattoo friendly and no need to cover up!

Hong KongFree onsen. Room space is just OK for 3 guests and 2 luggage. For our 2 night stay, they serve different menus of breakfast and dinner and the food is good. Good location and can view Mt. Fuji outside the hotel. However, the free shuttle service(and seats) from the hotel to Kawaguchiko station is limited in the morning (eg. 8:30, 9:30, 10:30).

United KingdomGood location, right opposite Okie Park which has a good view of Fuji. Not good value for money, this was one of our most expensive stays during a trip and unfortunately one of the worst. Room is very dated, no iron, only one towel per person (you have to pay extra for another towel). The futon was quite thin and uncomfortable. Whole place needs updated generally.

AustraliaTo be honest, I cannot think of anything. We do not go to 5 star hotels.
Exceptional staff service. We had a Japanese style room & only spent one night. It was only a short walk to the touristy area but far enough to have a quiet walk on the lake (lake shores). I do smoke when on holiday & the area provided was not put in a scrapy corner like others I have seen. We had views of the lake which were wonderful & I can imagine that the view of Mt Fuji would be just as good on the other side of the hotel. Some good value souvenirs in reception also.
