Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Incredible hotel. The food is amazing, and the staff were incredibly helpful at ensuring my Fiancé’s meal met his dietary requirements (gluten free)! The private open air onsens were a highlight - enjoy a sake whilst soaking under the stars. The staff were very friendly and amenable and able to answer any questions we had.

JapanThe road from Matsumoto was a bit windy but that’s a given in the region.
Beautiful room, delicious kaiseki dinner - the meat was so tender and juicy, and I was honestly almost bursting after eating everything. Lovely little private onsens we could use all throughout the night and morning. The place also didn’t feel too crowded.

FranceA little far away from the Takayama and they didn’t offer the possibility for a dinner in the hotel which was a little inconvenient.
The breakfast was amazing, the location very nice in the middle of the mountains but 1hour away from Takayama. The onsen was open air bath and they offered a sake to enjoy it under the stars. There were free sweets and tea and coffee in the lounge. Just amazing!

SingaporeAs we booked a room for 5, the room has 5 tatami beds laid out for us, and it was quite cramp after that, not much space to walk about. They have a foot massager in the common area for guest use. As our room is directly above the common area, we could hear the foot massager sound coming form below when other guests are using it late into the night, which isn't the hotel's fault. But would prefer if the foot massager is placed somewhere else.
The ryokan came with its own private onsen - indoor and outdoor. We can use the outdoor onsen privately by locking the door and the sign will show that it is occupied. Once we are done with it, we can just unlock and leave it for others to use. Room is Japanese tatami style. There's a small table in the room with some kneeling /seating pads. The toilet, basin and shower areas are separated from the room. We can get the amenities from the lobby area. There's also free flow drink of tea/coffee at the common area.

United StatesThe place could use some updating. I was a bit concerned when we first arrived and saw the outside. But you can't judge a book by its cover. The food and service are great.
The food and staff were excellent! The room and facilities were clean.

Czech RepublicThe food was great quality, but only japanese. I liked the meat for dinner, but it was very heavy. They didnt offer enough salad with it, just rice, miso soup and many small dishes with food hard to even recognize what it is (as an european) Breakfast is also japanese. I would say it was definitely an experience, but having the dinner only once would be enough to experience eating in yukata and grilling the food by yourself.
Very comfortable beds 4 private onsens outside - whenever I wanted to go, they were free. You can be there all night. Best place for onsens we have stayed in in Japan. Openable windows with insect net

Czech RepublicGreat experience of a Japanese ryokan. Especially the dinners and the onsens were great. Breakfast was rather monotonous and a bit disappointing. But overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

IsraelThe restaurant doesn't have vegetarian options except plain white rice and some vegetables you can make on the grill. There are no convenient stores around, so need to take into consideration if you are not with a car.
The hotel is Rayokan style very quite with beautiful surroundings of nature. Very unique and calming place. The hotel springs also have very good private hot springs. The staff is really nice and the restaurant is good. Very close to the bus stop.

AustraliaRoom exactly as pictured. We had both breakfast and dinner for both days we stayed there, the food was amazing and we received excellent service from the staff. The private onsens were the highlight of our stay, they had long opening hours so we did a soak morning and evening. The ryokan also offered so many complimentary perks such as snacks, unlimited beverages, and toiletry.

JordanThe facility is a bit old but I would still recommend it as the staff is keeping it clean and in as good of a shape as possible. The price for the dinner is a bit high but I believe still worth it at least one night as the quality of the food was high and super authentic.
Loved the place and we had a really good time! The private onsen are super nice and we loved them. The food was very good and a true Japanese experience. The tatami room was very comfortable and great to stay in.

United KingdomWe did not order dinner at the hotel and it was tricky finding somewhere as it’s so remote. Places were closed at 7pm. Would have been helpful to know the limitations of local restaurants before hand.

SingaporeNothing for us. There isn't much food in the vicinity so I'm not sure what will happen if one doesn't have the in house meals.
The outdoor private onsens were fantastic. There were a few to choose from and drink free sake under the stars while soaking in the hot spring. The dinner and breakfast were all excellent with a spread of different types of food. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a good size with comfortable futon and blankets. It also has attached bathroom and toilet and all the facilities which a hotel room would provide. Will definitely come back again!.
