Special climate of the Japan mountainous area even in the summer. We can enjoy Japanese culture of meal and hot springs bath and also very kind and polite staff

Incredible hotel. The food is amazing, and the staff were incredibly helpful at ensuring my Fiancé’s meal met his dietary requirements (gluten free)! The private open air onsens were a highlight - enjoy a sake whilst soaking under the stars. The staff were very friendly and amenable and able to answer any questions we had.

    Nothing :)

Beautiful room, delicious kaiseki dinner - the meat was so tender and juicy, and I was honestly almost bursting after eating everything. Lovely little private onsens we could use all throughout the night and morning. The place also didn’t feel too crowded.

The road from Matsumoto was a bit windy but that’s a given in the region.

The breakfast was amazing, the location very nice in the middle of the mountains but 1hour away from Takayama. The onsen was open air bath and they offered a sake to enjoy it under the stars. There were free sweets and tea and coffee in the lounge. Just amazing!

A little far away from the Takayama and they didn’t offer the possibility for a dinner in the hotel which was a little inconvenient.

The ryokan came with its own private onsen - indoor and outdoor. We can use the outdoor onsen privately by locking the door and the sign will show that it is occupied. Once we are done with it, we can just unlock and leave it for others to use. Room is Japanese tatami style. There's a small table in the room with some kneeling /seating pads. The toilet, basin and shower areas are separated from the room. We can get the amenities from the lobby area. There's also free flow drink of tea/coffee at the common area.

As we booked a room for 5, the room has 5 tatami beds laid out for us, and it was quite cramp after that, not much space to walk about. They have a foot massager in the common area for guest use. As our room is directly above the common area, we could hear the foot massager sound coming form below when other guests are using it late into the night, which isn't the hotel's fault. But would prefer if the foot massager is placed somewhere else.

Very friendly staff who spoke good English and explained well. Superb meals - best Kaiseki we’ve eaten in Japan.

The property is run down, it is just an old hotel in need of some serious maintenance. Linen and towels badly need replacing. It did not live up to the Ryokan experience I was anticipating and it was expensive for what it was.

The staff were really lovely, they had lots of freebies like soap and lotion, the private onsen was nice too.

The whole hotel looks outdated…The photos advertised look much better than reality. The public onsen looks far from relaxing, more like a hospital pool - the lighting, the colours etc…the private onsens need more attention to cleaning, felt kinda slimey. The rooms need attention to cleaning - webs around the lamps, old fittings and dirty windows. The view from shared lounge onto the pond - looks sad and also needs some looking after. We felt it was way overpriced for what it is.

The hospitality was kind, they tried to make our time enjoyable, They changed us to a room with beds, even though due to a misunderstanding the reservation was for a room with a futon.

There was a misunderstanding and we were given a room with a futon, very uncomfortable, The menu is structured, and if a certain type of food doesn't suit you, you have no option.

The food and staff were excellent! The room and facilities were clean.

The place could use some updating. I was a bit concerned when we first arrived and saw the outside. But you can't judge a book by its cover. The food and service are great.

Despite our expectations, this turned out to be our biggest disappointment. It might deserve a 7, but considering it was the most expensive hotel of the entire Japan trip, it wasn’t justified. Dinner and breakfast were decent. The room was okay but very basic — the toilet was tiny, and there wasn’t even a place to hang a towel in the shower. There are both public and private baths, but the private ones are surrounded by high fences, so you end up sitting in what feels like a box — the photos make it look much nicer than it really is. On top of the already steep price, they also charge a 300¥ per person “bath tax” for using the onsen..

Very comfortable beds 4 private onsens outside - whenever I wanted to go, they were free. You can be there all night. Best place for onsens we have stayed in in Japan. Openable windows with insect net

The food was great quality, but only japanese. I liked the meat for dinner, but it was very heavy. They didnt offer enough salad with it, just rice, miso soup and many small dishes with food hard to even recognize what it is (as an european) Breakfast is also japanese. I would say it was definitely an experience, but having the dinner only once would be enough to experience eating in yukata and grilling the food by yourself.

Breakfast became repetitive quite quickly, and some of the dishes were maybe even too local for me.
