Ken and Yogi were so helpful! We were so impressed by their service and the tranquility of this place. The dinner was delicious and was served with the rice from Ken’s rice paddies! Will definitely recommend this lovely Airbnb to anyone!!

The owners and managers, Ken-San and Yuki-San are the nicest people. Very easy to communicate with, extremely helpful and truly make you feel at home. The place is lovely, very well located, clean and the dinners and breakfasts are delicious.

We loved everything about our stay. Ken and Yuki were absolutely amazing hosts in every single way. From the moment we stepped in they took care of us to make sure we would have the perfect time in Magome. They made sure they knew our onward journey plans to ensure that we had enough time to make it for trains at Nagiso Station. They took time to then explain all of the things we should not miss in the area and gave us a lovely drink and chocolate at the same time. After a long journey this is just what we needed. They were just lovely to chat too and a lovely couple 😍😍😍😍 The house is stunning. You can see the care and attention to detail that ken and Yuki have put into every single aspect. The details are traditional, but with a modern twist. Everything is spotless clean. The showers all look brand new. There are also plenty of toilets and showers to facilitate the whole house. Dinner was amazing. We had the chicken and vegetarian options and we didn't leave a thing. It was just stunning and very tasty. Drinks are also available to purchase so you have everything you need for a lovely evening. We even played cards afterwards which was a nice way to end the evening. Breakfast was simple, but perfect and set us up for our day hiking in the area. The area is amazing. The bedroom was very comfortable and we both had a lovely night's sleep. Thank you ken and Yuki for an unforgettable stay. My only regret is that we didn't stay a bit longer. We have already decided we will come back in the autumn one year and stay with you again. You should be very proud of what you have achieved with Sakanomichi. It is beautiful. From the girls who went to Hakata. 😍😍😍😍

That we didn't stay more nights.

We wanted a traditional place to stay in Magome, and found it here. Ken and Yuki are friendly and accommodating, good comms and they can't do enough. Comfortable rooms, a lounge with nice seats and a few games, and a fantastic dinner,.all made for the best stay of.our 2 weeks in Japan.

Although the facilities (shower, lavatories, etc) were shared they were in very good condition. The location is ideal for doing the trekking to the other town. Yuki and Ken were the best hosts imaginable, very kind and helping.

I'm afraid my words will not be enough to express how much I loved my stay here. Kenさん and Yukiさん were extremely welcoming. I enjoyed my conversations with them, learning about Magome-juku, umeshu, and many other things despite my very lacking Japanese skills. When it was time for me to leave and embark on my hike to Tsumago-juku, they ran after me to give me a bottle of iced water to help me with the summer heat. I almost teared up from their kindness. I was on a solo trip for my birthday and they gave me the most memorable moment of my trip. Other things to note about this guesthouse: Room: I'm not sure about the other rooms but I secured the best one. It had an amazing view of Magome-juku. There is only a futon but it was very comfortable. The room is air-conditioned and although not sound-proof, Magome is quiet and you can hear the peaceful sounds of water flowing through the canals at night. Shared spaces: The shared spaces include the dining area, living area, toilets, showers, and an indoor bath. There is also a laundry area which you can use for a small fee (about 500 yen if I'm not mistaken). Reception is not 24/7 and the lights out is at 10pm I think. The shared spaces are not only clean, but they're also beautifully designed! Lots of dried flowers as decoration. Meals: You can opt to have dinner and breakfast here again for a small fee. Dinner is Indian curry and let me just say-- it was delicious! I had the spicy chicken keema, although personally I wish it was a bit spicier. The homemade yogurt was simply amazing. Breakfast is a simple spread of eggs, bread, yogurt, cereals, a variety of fruits, and drinks such as homemade juice and coffee from the coffee shop down the street. This was again very good and I enjoyed it more than I expected. I feel like Magome is a one-time destination because of its size, but I definitely want to come back and stay at sakanomichi again!

Both dinner, cooked to order, and breakfast were amazing. Rice was from the hotel owner's fileds, plum wine from fruit of the owners' garden. Amongst other things, we had homemade yogurt and homemade jam in the morning. This minshuku style place was impeccably clean! The room, in traditional Japanese style, had very comfortable futton beds. We had a blissful sleep after a day of hiking all the way from Nakatsugawa to Ochiai and finally Magome. This hotel is right on the main street of the beautiful Magome post town. We were extremely happy with everything and will be back!

Can't fault anything, it was all perfect.

This is a great guest house. Not your standard anonymous 4-5 star hotel. If you want something a bit more authentic, with a great ambience and very friendly hosts, then you should hurry to reserve a room. The rooms are simple, but comfortable. The showers and toilets are shared, but clean and plenty. The guest house only has a few rooms, so never crowded. The town …very original! (An old postal town)

    Nothing not to like!

Ken and Yuki were amazing hosts who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. The renovated guest house is in a stunning spot on Magomes main road. Both dinner and breakfast were really tasty and featured plenty of home grown treats.

The owners were so lovely and had thought of absolutely everything. Not only was dinner and breakfast delicious but they gave us bug spray when we went out after dark and frozen water bottles for our hike the next day. Pyjamas and slippers, tips for hiking and chat. (And homemade plum wine and homegrown rice!) Highly recommend. Thanks for such a lovely stay.

Ken and Yuki were brilliantly helpful and gave us all the information we needed. The property was the perfect modern version of the traditional area. We stayed here to start a few days on the Nakasendo trail and Ken and Yuki sat with us and gave advice on the best spots.
