Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesI noticed a comment saying the shower room was glass door and when I arrive, I noticed that the door was painted white cannot be seen through. That's great. The shower room door still does not have a lock. Since most time the house was empty, I didn't have any issue personally. However, it would be nice to add a lock for shower room, just in case.
I love the design and decoration of the house! My room is very big. A lot of space. The location is perfect. All good restaurants around me. Short walk to temples or grocery stores. I feel comfortable staying inside in the shared living room when it is too hot outside. The staff is also very friendly. Mika's massage is supper good. She come to the house. Highly recommend!!! United StatesClean property, had everything you need. If you’re ever in the area and wanted to stay at a traditional style inn, this place is the best. The location is amazing as well. Walking distance to the station and hub for food and stores. There’s also a family right next door which is great.

United StatesMy only complaint is that the air conditioner is hard to use. There are many English directions listed for the TV and a booklet in the room, however I struggled with trying to get the fan to run faster. Not any fault of the owner though. Did my diligence online and found figured it out after playing with it a while.
The staff is very friendly and helpful; they are fluent in English and even can give wonderful recommendations on places to eat nearby. My second time staying at this location. Gotanda is a gem and offers very peaceful mornings and a quiet place to return after exploring Tokyo and the surrounding areas.

AustraliaThe staff were very friendly and helpful! The room is so spacious and was kept nice and cool which is a must in the summer. The futon was super comfortable- I slept very well. The facilities like the toilets and bathrooms were modern and spotless. The surrounding location was nice too- a quiet neighbourhood but with plenty of places to eat, a park, and so convenient just 5 mins walk or so to the station (Yamanote line). I would absolutely stay here again next time I visit Tokyo! :)

SpainOur room didn't have curtains, so the early sunlight (in summer the sun rises at about 4 am) was a bit annoying, especially with the jet lag making it difficult to sleep.
Everything was sparkling clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, with the JR Yamanote line at 5 min on foot and a Family Mart with some cosy tables just next to the Meguro river for a perfect breakfast. The views in spring must be spectacular, will definitely come back!

Great Ryokan in the south of Tokyo, conveniently located if you arrive at Shinagawa station or fly to/from Haneda airport. Nice quiet neighborhood. Very nice hosts.

FranceIt is close to the railway so you might hear a bit of noise although nothing terrible. The Ryokan is between two high buildings so our windows were showing to walls but as it is well decorated with Japanese panels it wasn’t a big problem.
We loved staying here with our two children. There is plenty of room in a traditional Japanese style Ryokan. People are very nice and it is very practical, near to the underground station and all facilities.

CanadaThe building is old so you will hear the subway running. It's a white noise but may be a deal breaker for those who are sensitive to noise. The view from our room was off the buildings next door close enough to touch. Better to keep the windows closed and enjoy the charming tatamii room.
Charming location and building by the waterway. Conveniently located close to subway station and convenience store. Wonderful staff.

GermanyWe had a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed the Japanese bath. We loved our room with Tatami mats and futon bed. It was very comfortable and cozy. The area has lots of good cafes and restaurants and is well connected with public transport. The staff was super helpful and we could leave our luggage with them. We already want to come back.

FinlandIt is a nice and quaint location. If you are interested in experiencing more traditional Japanese hotel with tatami mats and sleeping on a futon, this is a good option for low price. Naturally it does not provide onsen and the very exotic Ryokan style food service. The owner is really nice. I can only form the most basic Japanese sentences and he does not speak a lot of English, but still we understood each other. Check-in and introductions for the room and the facilities was all done verbally. I only had to rely on a translator app when I requested a taxi to Shinagawa station during check-out. It is not a bad walk, but it was raining so I did not want to get myself and my luggage wet. Taxi fare was 1600 yen. If you are walking to the Ryokan from Shinagawa station, then I recommend planning your route to approach from the south. If you take the slightly smaller street towards the Gotanda Waterfront Plaza, the T-intersection at the end is a very good indicator you are very close by and do not need to worry about walking too far and missing your turn.

CanadaWas a nice cozy Ryokan hotel experience. It was my first time being in a Japanese traditional style bedroom. Before we left, the host was very kind to give us a free umbrella when it was raining outside. I enjoyed trying out the hot tub. I loved the pajamas that we were given to wear.

Nice location, neighborhood vibe away from most tourist spots but with plenty of restaurant and grocery options nearby, and a 5m walk to metro station. Bed could have been a little thicker but was used to it after traveling in Japan for a couple weeks. Enjoyed my time there!
