Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe dinner and breakfast were simply amazing. We realized, despite all the times we’ve eaten sushi/sashimi, that we’d never actually had the real deal before. This was it.

ItalySeikoro Ryokan is not just a place to sleep, it’s an experience. In one night we felt truly cared for, with small gestures that stay in our memory — like being helped into a traditional yukata with such kindness. The house has history in every detail, but what makes it unforgettable is how it makes you feel: welcomed, grounded, and part of Kyoto for a moment. A special thank you to the lady who introduced herself as “Shige” (I’m sorry if I misheard your name) — your warmth and grace made my stay truly unforgettable. If you’re looking for a place to stay, there are many in Kyoto. If you’re looking for a place that will stay with you, there is Seikoro. It will remain in my heart forever.

Italythe sexist behaviour by one member of the staff. the western breakfast could definitely and easily be improved.
Beautiful ryokan, very authentic. it feels like going back in time and i do really appreciate how they didnt overly renovate things but instead respected the essence of the building. Some of the employees were extremely kind and attentive, but one specific one did make me feel uncomfortable in few occasions. This woman felt very sexist for a bunch of reasons: I came with a male friend of mine. After checking in with a sweet lady, another one came in our room to bring us a welcome tea with a sweet to then give us a bit of informations about the hotel. The lady that came was always serving my male friend first and was only showing him the informations papers and only looking at him while explaining. Instead, she looked and referred directly to me only when it came to instruct on how to operate the tea machine. She then took us to see where the hotel baths were and obviously only spoke to him and did not look at me ever. There were then some others minor differences in his favour. We then eventually did a kimono experience, which was super fun. The girls from the staff were absolutely lovely, fun, professional and ..fair! The following morning the same lady that made the sexist differences came in the room and handed us the pictures of the kimono experience. She was holding a tray with all the pictures and went straight to my friend even though she could have simply put them on the table we were both sitting at to allow both of us to enjoy them at the same time. Nevertheless, while his pictures were printed with nicer glossy paper, mine weren't. Furthermore his pictures were all displayed whereas one of the two that i had was instead covered by one shared one we took. This whole unnecessary behaviour made the whole situation feel uncomfortable for both me and him throughout the stay.

QatarIt’s a very old Ryokan but it is well maintained. It has its own public bath so you get to experience it without an added cost and it is very convenient. Our room had its own bath too. The dinner was very good, every dish served was good. The Japanese lady who served us was very kind and attentive. I also liked the garden view from the room. The train station is nearby.

ItalyI do wish the main wall of our room was more sufficiently insulated from the noise of traffic from the busy street on the other side. Otherwise, truly a great experience.
Incredible place to stay to get a peek into history. It's what any honest tourist would dream of a more authentic experience. Exceptional staff. Adorable room. Wonderful breakfast.

United StatesThe staff was amazing. This was my first time at a Ryokan and they made it feel very special, especially our room attendant who was extremely helpful and even spoke English when we had trouble understanding everything at check-in and at meal times. Our breakfasts were also amazing (we tried both the traditional Japanese and Western breakfasts and were pleased by both). Thank you so much for making my daughter and I feel welcome in Kyoto.

United KingdomWe were in one of the rooms near the main road - which is busy. I hadn't realised that the Ryokan stretched back from the small side-road (where the entrance is) to the other side of the block (where our room was) hence we were next to the main busy road. And with thin windows - naturally a lot of noise made its way in. I'm also not quite sure it was worth the money we paid - this place cost more than the 5* hotel in the middle of Tokyo - but all in all very happy and glad we went there.
The level of service there was excellent - staff were amazing. It was great to experience a genuine authentic and old Japanese Ryokan. Nice clean facilities and lots of nice touches.

PolandStaying at Seikoro Ryokan was an unforgettable experience. As Europeans, we were truly amazed by the historical atmosphere of this place, established in 1831. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, making sure every detail contributed to the unique charm of the ryokan. The traditional Japanese breakfasts were absolutely delicious. A stay we will remember for a very long time.

ChileWe only stayed one night but it was worth it. We were looking into a traditional Ryokan experience and that’s what we received. The complete staff was super kind, they welcomed us, received our bags before check in and later when we came up they welcomed us with tea and local sweets. In the night we had our kaiseki dinner (13 courses) it was a lot but definitely an experience to remember. Not good tho for sensitive paladars, be prepared to eat everything. The girl who served as our host was super nice and explained us everything. The private bath was also a highlight. We loved every second.
