    The location.

The hotel was dark and dingy. The men’s spa lacked hot water and decent bathing space. Meals were adequate but lacking in quantity and quality. Compared to another hotel we stayed at in the area this was very poor and far too expensive for what was on offer.

Really amazing hotel, incredible location, great Onsen, delicious diner. Many thanks to the staff who was really nice and friendly (even though we only know a few words in Japanese)

The staff were outstanding and kind and nice and fun. Dinner was very good. It was very quiet and pretty in the woods. The room was perfectly fine, as were the futon and quality of the tatami mats. It was a very rustic setting, if you were looking for a hotel type situation then this is not for you. They made a very nice box lunch for us.

If it weren't for the price it would be excellent. It needs to be updated. It cost almost $400 for two people with meals which is 60% more than I think it should be. But, of the 42 places of accommodation in this valley it was the only one with availability so we felt lucky to get a place to stay before beginning our hike up the mountain the next morning.

Super nice staff and food. Rooms were clean and the Onsen was a pleasant experience after hiking in the mountains.

My most pricey stay in Japan, but as I understand the accommodation in Kamikochi is quite pricey. Toilets are shared but not as bad as they were up in the mountains huts.

The staff is very friendly and attentive, but over the japanese normal. They really took care of us especially during the long hiking days. The rooms are comfortable and spaceous, with views to the mountain side for both sides of the house. The onsen bath is great and convenient for an after hike day. Totally advised, we hope to come back in the future.

Everything was perfect. We enjoyed our stay.
