Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomDoutor Coffee Shop is the only choice for breakfast and it does not open early enough if you are off to catch an early morning train.
Located very conveniently for Shon-Yokohama station in an area that has a lot of reasonably priced restaurants around and excellent transport links. Staff at reception were very helpful and charmingly polite (as everyone in Japan tends to be).

AustraliaThe facilities are a little dated- physical key/lock which isn’t a big deal but it made the key with its bulky key a little less convenient to carry around. No power points by the bed but thankfully the room had an extension board, I assume for this very reason. Only real fault was the steep step from the bathroom into the main room, not sure anything could be done about that if it’s just built in such a way, and it wasn’t a deal breaker, just a mild inconvenience.
Great location, 2 minutes from a major station including bullet train connections and direct to airport shuttles. Lots of nearby shops, restaurants and a cafe attached to the building. Staff were friendly and helpful, always welcoming and clearly proud of their jobs. Lots of space in the corner room and while the aircon system was a bit dated, room came with a portable aircon and openable windows for extra air.

United StatesGiven that I was in Tokyo for relaxation, using Shin-Yokohama as my sort of "base" allowed me to reach either central or the outskirts of Tokyo within a little over an hour. In other words, I think this location is perfect for if you want to be out of Tokyo, but just within reach of the city.

GermanyThis hotel is old. Some remodeling in the common areas like the lobby, reception or hallways can hide that quite well, but the well-worn and faded furniture in the room really tells the story. The hotel tries to mitigate the shortcomings by providing band-aids but it really tells how old it actually is, compared to modern standards. If you weren't sure how old it was, the AM/FM radio with cassette player in the headboard spells it out pretty well. The lamps in the bathroom have yellowed with the decades and for some reason the reading lamp by the bed was connected to the main room light, so that I could only have the reading light on together with the room light, which defeats the purpose. There was no outlet directly by the bed so an extension cord was provided. The mini-fridge in the room was a compressor model (instead of peltier-element) so it made noise when it was running. Noise in general is probably the biggest problem with the room I had - it was opposite of the elevators so there was lots of foot traffic noise in the hallway which the door did a poor job of rejecting. The window was facing the front side so traffic noise was a constant at any hour, especially since the window was single-pane glass. And due to the thin walls, my neighbor's conversations might as well have happened in my room without much difference. The hotel still uses physical keys to access the rooms and asks you to return them to the front desk when you go out. Shin-Yokohama itself is not a place you should every go to for the sake of it - there is very little to see or do.
In general, good enough for a night or two. The bed was OK, the mattress could be thicker and softer, but the pillow and comforter were decent. Room and bathroom were clean and mold-free and everything worked as it should. The shower seems to have been replaced recently for one with a massage setting. The provided amenities are what you would expect for a Japanese hotel of this rating. The location is conveniently close the the station and centrally located to get to the Arena and all of the cafes, bars and restaurants in just a couple of minutes on foot. The staff was always friendly and tried to accommodate my needs and wishes even in English.

AustraliaI personally prefer traditional soap over liquid soap. There didn’t seem to be an option to use bar soap at the amenities desk. Besides the lack of block soap, the amenities desk is well presented and stocked. (Possibly flick handles for the hand washing basin.)
The people were so friendly, helpful and nice. A short walk to train, shops, and arena. Convenient shops all around. The room was comfortable. Good air conditioning really helped in the steamy weather. The amenities desk in the foyer is more preferable than excess unused amenities in each room. Guests are able to use what’s needed or wanted without any waste. Thank you to all the staff who cared for our joy, cleaning our room each day, keeping everyone fully cared for, assuring everything is clean, neat, tidy and well maintained. And greeting us every time with warm smiles and a helpful attitude.

United StatesThe room is misleading as it says there’s air conditioning on the booking listing. There is no air-conditioning whatsoever. This would have been an absolute deal breaker had we known. For those booking in anything other than winter good luck. There is only one little fan and I wouldn’t even really consider it a good fan. The room traps heat like nothing I’ve ever been in. So with it being 70° outside, it felt like 82° in the room. There is no circulation even when you open the window to really get that cold air in. So it remains pretty warm for your entire stay. This means sleeping at night absolutely awful, also with having to have the window completely open, you’re letting in mosquitoes. So we got bit several times throughout our stay; for those that have allergies this is also tough. the pillows were very uncomfortable as the Filling was made of cut up plastic straws ( not exaggerating some sort of reusable material campaign) .The bed is very firm, which is pretty common in Japan; so just be aware of that. There’s a few quarks with the shower, it doesn’t bend at all ; so that can get a little tricky. The pricing was pretty high for what I feel like we got, at $135 a night. Honestly, we’ve definitely had better experiences elsewhere, we ran into the issue of being around the cherry blossom season in April ;so lots of things were booked. If you go during this time book several months in advance . We only had a few weeks advance. This also made it very difficult after we arrived as once we found these issues to be problematic with the room; we weren’t able to find any anywhere else to sleep. Wouldn’t stay here again. I do have to say the staff was super nice and having it close to a station and onsite laundry were the highlights.
The staff was the only good part
