Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Patina of long-gone era. Hotel is quit run-down, but with some curious charm.

MalaysiaNothing.
The hotel is located right opposite the beach, great place to be while having your foot Onsen. The Onsen in the hotel is a great relief after a long drive. A bit disappointed that they did not open up the outdoor Onsen, but the indoor Onsen was great. There weren't many people in the Onsen the day I was there, so it was quiet and nice. The room was comfortable and the bed was comfortable.

JapanThe limited number of onsen it has only two for short hours. It must be great if we can access onsen on daytime like from 11am to 6pm I guess.
It's in front of Shirarahama Beach. And It has it's own room foot bath that you can access anytime.

MalaysiaThe second floor onwards and the public onsen area looks a little dated and would definitely help if the management does a renovation to renew the interior in these areas. Would love to see this hotel continue on
Interesting experience staying at a Taisho-era hotel. We booked the room with the private onsen and didn't regret it as our room is spacious and well-maintained. The outdoor bath is a nice touch and the location is conveniently located next to Shirarahama beach. And there are plenty of restaurants nearby too.

AustraliaThe toilet was a little cramped (to the point where it was hard to keep the toilet lid up) but really this was a minor issue since the rest of the room was huge!
This place was fantastic! It's right next to the beach and an easy walk to many attractions. The hotel is old but that's part of its charm. I loved having my own footbath on the deck overlooking the ocean. The room is very spacious and the bed was comfortable.

ThailandIt’s a bit run down and in need of some renovation.
Since we had our own onzen attached to our room in a little garden it was extremely pleasant. Moreover, it’s very near the street with lots of restaurants and the fantastic beach is just across the road. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

JapanThe hotel is not new but it was OK. We had some neighbors upstairs (it seems like a family with small kids) that were running around 10pm-11pm and that was very noisy, Maybe, because of the hotel is traditional and you usually hear noises with tatami floor structures.
We went during a weekend to celebrate my oldest daughter's birthday and we were surprised with a small gift for her inside the room, it was very thoughtful . Also we stayed in the 1st floor which had a private onsen that really made the difference in our trip. Location was great, the beach was crossing the street!

ThailandThe hotel is quite old and has a wooden structure. Footstep noises from other rooms especially from the above bothered us a little but it was not a problem.
Private outdoor natural hot spring inside the room. We could see the sky and outside trees partially good for privacy reasons for guests when using the private onsen. It was quite clean as well.

SingaporeNo signage within hotel to carpark nor directions from carpark to hotel lobby. Difficult to park car if allocated inside corner lot. Public baths rundown. Male outdoor pool empty.
Private onsen in room has nice outdoor setting and layout. Water is good. There is a small terrace leading to the outdoor onsen with separate toilet and bathroom at side. Toilet room and bathroom are cold spots, fortunately toilet seat is warm! Overall room looks good.
