How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt is big and there are alot of parking lots
It is dusty and theres cobwebs at the private onsen in the room. Besides that, there seem to be mouldy smell in the sleeping area. Not worth paying so much for the accommodation. Kaiseki not fantastic too.

Verified reviewWe stayed in a room with the private spa as a bit of a splurge - it was well worth it! A beautiful resort with attentive staff, fantastic dinner experiences and a huge room with traditional seating, but western beds. We came with our seven year old, who adored the yukatas we were all supplied with to wear around the spa. We had a private room for dinner with our own waiter who made a wonderful effort to explain the menu to us and engage our son. A wonderful experience which created lasting memories of a traditional Japanese inn for our little family! Oh, and walked right in without an appointment to a wonderful and relaxing foot/leg massage.
As others noted, the inn is located a long way from the city centre. However, the shuttle is convenient and works well if you are taking day-trips or venturing into the city during the day, but wanting a chance to truly relax in the evenings. A very minor quibble.

Verified reviewNice view and a great bath facility! Also welcome drinks were nice.
It’s a little further from the downtown area but I knew that. There is a limited shuttle service from Matsumoto station. Japanese style room is a bit outdated. Lighting in the room needs major upgrade. No white light in the bathroom area please!

Rooms have some smell of smoke when we first arrive. Can freshen up the room with room spray.

Verified reviewWe have private onsen in our room with beautiful panoramic view. We have also visited the public onsen and they are stunning. We have our private room for dinner and breakfast which is quiet and comfortable.
We originally requested a queen bed when booking, but the hotel could only provide a room with two twin beds. The room features a private onsen and a shower room. However, it appears the shower room had not been used for some time, causing the air trap to dry out and allowing sewer odors to spread into the room. Fortunately, this is an easy fix—simply running the tap periodically prevents the issue. Housekeeping staff could easily address this while tidying the rooms.

Verified reviewThe dining was wonderful. We were able to relax in a separate space for the five of us to eat. We were able to travel comfortably to the hotel because the hotel provided a shuttle bus from Matsumoto Station to the hotel. In addition, we provided baggage delivery and storage services from the group hotel in front of Matsumoto Station to Shoho, so we could enjoy the trip without the burden of carrying luggage.

Verified reviewOverall, it was a pleasant stay. We were glad to take a rest at this hotel for 2 nights! We chose a room in the Central Building with a private onsen. This was the best decision ever. The hotel is quite new. It provides a lot of facilities, e.g. welcome drinks bar, a few public onsens, shops, spa room and restaurants. The room is massive, with spacious living and dinning room, toilet and bathroom, 2 separated double size beds, and a private onsen by the window. Through the window, we can see the view of the city. The day and night views are amazing. Since the onsen is next to an opened window, it is very chill and cool, especially when it was a 10 degrees night. The room is also fully equipped with amenities, e.g. bottled water, snacks, toothbrush and personal hygiene items. There was a very nice tea and coffee set provided in the room too. The room is so clean and well-equipped for anyone to have a after-meal break. The buffet breakfast is great. The hotel provides different options daily. If it can increase the chinese food options, like more dim sum options, it will be even better. The dinner is fabulous. We have 2 different menus on 2 nights and they both cover a wide range of options, e.g. waygu beef, tempura, sashimi, rice and desserts. Trsut me, you will never regret to include meals into the booking.
The hotel is located on the mountain, so if you don't drive, it could be hard to catch the shuttle bus. There are plenty of free parking spots around though. There is no facilities, convenient stores or shops within walking distance.

Verified reviewBeautiful views and onsen ! Lovely room and staff was helpful. The outdoor deck is quite peaceful. The kaiseki dinner was excellent and we all loved the amazing breakfast buffet. There was a morning 9am shuttle bus to the train station in town.
Parts of property are outdated.

Verified reviewWelcome was very friendly, but reception somewhat complicated.
Interior and furniture are a bit worn. Bath is tiny. If you don’t book dinner in advance, there is no food available at all.
